Sony’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle grossed $10.207 M on Tuesday to lead the daily box office for the second day in a row. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was down 37.1 percent from Monday’s
New Year’s Day performance and down a solid 40.2 percent from last Tuesday’s Boxing Day take. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is on the verge of zooming past the $200 M domestic mark with a significantly stronger than expected
$195.432 M through 14 days of release. That places the film an impressive 4.5 percent ahead of the $187.037 M 14-day total of 2016’s Sing. Given its continued strong holding power this week, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle
looks to be headed for another impressive performance this coming weekend. |
Disney’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi remained in second place with $7.877 M. Star Wars: The Last Jedi declined 44.9 percent from Monday and a very sharp 71.6 percent from last Tuesday’s inflated
Boxing Day performance. While Star Wars: The Last Jedi continues to slow relatively quickly, in the bigger picture the film has grossed a massive $539.388 M in 19 days. Yesterday saw Star Wars: The Last Jedi pass both
2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and 2008’s The Dark Knight to move into sixth place on the all-time unadjusted domestic list. Star Wars: The Last Jedi is running 20.6 percent ahead of the $447.170 M 19-day
haul of Rogue One. |
Star Wars: The Last Jedi took in an estimated $16.6 M internationally on Tuesday. That brings the international total for Star Wars: The Last Jedi to $551.4 M and global total to $1.091 B.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi will open in China on January 5. |
Fox’s The Greatest Showman held steady in third place with $3.672 M. The Greatest Showman continues to display tremendous holding power, as the film was down 31.8 percent from Monday and down just
28.6 percent from last Tuesday. Thanks in part to its strong holding power; The Greatest Showman is now outpacing expectations with $58.094 M through 14 days. That places the film just 15.5 percent behind the $68.764 M 14-day
take of 2016’s Passengers. The total gross to opening weekend ratio for The Greatest Showman already stands at 6.60 to 1. |
Universal’s Pitch Perfect 3 continued to claim fourth with $3.397 M. Pitch Perfect 3 was down 30.2 percent from Monday and down a sizable 54.4 percent from last Tuesday.
Pitch Perfect 3 passed the $70 M mark yesterday and has grossed $71.563 M in twelve days, which is towards the lower end of the film’s scaled back expectations. Pitch Perfect 3 is running an underwhelming, but largely
expected 44.4 percent behind the $128.606 M twelve-day gross of 2015’s Pitch Perfect 2. |
Computer animated films Ferdinand and Coco took fifth and sixth place on Tuesday with respective daily grosses of $2.531 M and $1.751 M. Fox’s Ferdinand was down just 27.0 percent from
Monday and down 36.7 percent from last Tuesday, while Coco declined 33.6 percent from Monday and a very similar 36.6 percent from last Tuesday. Respective daily grosses stand at an impressive $184.196 M for Coco in
