Daily Box Office Report
Wednesday, December 6, 2017

By Daniel Garris

Disney’s Coco grossed $1.578 M on Wednesday to lead the daily box office for a 15th consecutive day. Coco continues to display strong holding power, as the film was down 36.6 percent from Tuesday and down only 21.1 percent from last Wednesday. The 15-day total for Coco stands at an impressive $115.672 M. In comparison to previous Disney Thanksgiving weekend openers, Coco is running 15.7 percent ahead of the $99.972 M 15-day gross of 2010’s Tangled and just 7.3 percent behind the $124.772 M 15-day haul of last year’s Moana. BoxOfficeReport is predicting a third weekend take of $19.5 M for Coco.

Warner’s Justice League held steady in second place with $1.117 M. That represented a 35.0 percent decline from Tuesday and a solid 41.3 percent decline from last Wednesday. The 20-day total for Justice League stands at a softer than expected $201.382 M. The film is running an underwhelming 25.2 percent behind the $269.082 M 20-day take of last year’s Suicide Squad. BoxOfficeReport is predicting a fourth weekend gross of $9.8 M for Justice League.

Lionsgate’s Wonder took in $958 K to remain in third. Wonder decreased 31.3 percent from Tuesday and just 23.6 percent from last Wednesday. Wonder passed the $90 M domestic mark yesterday and has grossed a significantly stronger than expected $90.833 M in 20 days. That leaves the film just $9.17 M away from reaching the $100 M domestic milestone. BoxOfficeReport is predicting that Wonder will gross $8.3 M in its fourth weekend.

Disney’s Thor: Ragnarok continued to claim fourth place with $734 K. Thor: Ragnarok was down 28.3 percent from Tuesday and down a slim 20.2 percent from last Wednesday. With an impressive 34-day total of $294.145 M, Thor: Ragnarok is just $5.86 M away from reaching the $300 M domestic milestone. BoxOfficeReport is predicting a sixth weekend take of $7.5 M for Thor: Ragnarok.

Fox’s Murder on the Orient Express and Paramount’s Daddy’s Home 2 claimed fifth and sixth place with respective daily grosses of $653 K and $514 K. Total grosses for the two films remain close, as respective 27-day totals stand at $86.962 M for Murder on the Orient Express and at $84.618 M for Daddy’s Home 2. Both films continue to outpace pre-release expectations.

On the platform front, A24’s The Disaster Artist took in $105,797 from 19 locations for a daily per-location average of $5,568, while Fox Searchlight’s The Shape of Water grossed $17,404 from 2 locations in New York for a massive per-location average of $8,702. Respective six-day totals stand at $1.522 M for The Disaster Artist and at $217 K for The Shape of Water. BoxOfficeReport is predicting that The Disaster Artist will take in $8.0 M this weekend upon expanding into semi-wide release (the film will be playing in 840 locations). The Shape of Water will be playing in 41 locations this weekend, as it expands to select major cities.
