Daily Box Office Report
Tuesday, October 31, 2017

By Daniel Garris

Lionsgate’s Jigsaw scared up $2.223 M on Halloween to lead the daily box office for a fifth consecutive day. Thanks in part to the holiday; Tuesday’s performance was up a healthy 58.8 percent over Monday. Jigsaw passed the $20 M mark yesterday and has grossed $20.264 M through five days of release. Jigsaw is running 27.5 percent ahead of the $15.897 M five-day start of 2009’s Saw VI and 27.9 percent behind the $28.107 M five-day haul of 2010’s Saw 3D.

Fellow Lionsgate release Tyler Perry’s Boo 2! A Madea Halloween also performed nicely on Halloween with a second place take of $1.262 M. Boo 2! A Madea Halloween was up a very strong 87.7 percent over Monday and down just 19.2 percent from last Tuesday. The twelve-day take for the film stands at $37.509 M. That places Boo 2! A Madea Halloween 32.7 percent behind the $55.765 M twelve-day gross of last year’s Boo! A Madea Halloween.

Universal’s Happy Death Day was up one spot from Monday to move into third on Tuesday with $697 K. Happy Death Day also clearly benefited from Halloween, as the film experienced a 58.5 percent bump over Monday and slowed just 21.1 percent from last Tuesday. Happy Death Day is on the verge of the $50 M domestic mark with a stronger than expected 19-day gross of $49.510 M.

Warner’s Geostorm was down one spot from Monday to land in fourth on Tuesday with $657 K. Geostorm increased 31.0 percent over Monday and decreased a very sharp 57.0 percent from last Tuesday. The pricey Geostorm has grossed a modest $24.941 M in twelve days domestically, but is performing far stronger internationally.

Warner’s Blade Runner 2049 held steady in fifth place with $528 K. Blade Runner 2049 increased 24.1 percent over Monday and decreased a sizable 48.4 percent from last Tuesday. Blade Runner 2049 is the highest grossing release of this October with a 26-day take of $82.492 M, but has had a disappointing run with expectations and its sizable cost in mind.
