Daily Box Office Report
Tuesday, October 17, 2017

By Daniel Garris

Warner’s Blade Runner 2049 took in $1.848 M on Tuesday to lead the daily box office for a second straight day. Blade Runner 2049 was up 27.9 percent over Monday and down a sizable 48.0 percent from last Tuesday. Blade Runner 2049 continues to run significantly below its lofty expectations with a twelve-day take of $64.263 M. That places the film 32.2 percent behind the $97.773 M twelve-day haul of 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road.

Universal’s Happy Death Day held steady in a close second with $1.727 M. Happy Death Day increased 26.4 percent over Monday’s performance. The film has grossed a stronger than expected $29.133 M in five days and is performing very well with its low production budget in mind. Happy Death Day is running 0.8 percent ahead of the $28.894 M five-day haul of 2015’s The Visit (another strong low-budget performer from Universal and Blumhouse).

STXfilms’ The Foreigner was up a healthy 44.4 percent over Monday to remain in third place on Tuesday with $1.537 M. The Foreigner is running towards the higher end of expectations with a solid five-day take of $15.715 M. The Foreigner is outpacing the $13.350 M five-day start of 2010’s The Spy Next Door (the last Jackie Chan vehicle to receive a wide release) by 17.7 percent.

Fox’s The Mountain Between Us was up one spot from Monday to move into fourth place on Tuesday with $761 K. The Mountain Between Us increased a strong 56.0 percent over Monday and decreased a respectable 43.4 percent from last Tuesday. The twelve-day total for The Mountain Between Us stands at $21.853 M, which is in line with expectations.

Universal’s American Made was down one spot from Monday to round out Tuesday’s top five with $661 K. American Made was up 27.9 percent over Monday and down a solid 39.7 percent from last Tuesday. American Made has grossed $41.408 M through 19 days of release.
