Daily Box Office Report
Monday, October 16, 2017

By Daniel Garris

After finishing in second place over the weekend, Warner’s Blade Runner 2049 returned to first place at the daily box office on Monday with $1.444 M. Blade Runner 2049 declined 67.6 percent from Sunday and a sharp 67.7 percent from last Monday’s inflated Columbus Day performance. Blade Runner 2049 continues to run significantly below expectations with an eleven-day take of $62.415 M. That places the film 34.1 percent behind the $94.728 M eleven-day haul of 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road.

Universal’s Happy Death Day placed in a close second with $1.367 M. Happy Death Day was down one spot and 72.8 percent from Sunday’s first place performance, in part from the film being more of a weekend film thanks to its PG-13 rating. In the bigger picture, Happy Death Day continues to exceed expectations with a strong four-day start of $27.406 M. Happy Death Day is running 1.4 percent ahead of the $27.039 M four-day launch of 2015’s The Visit.

STXfilms’ The Foreigner claimed third place with $1.064 M. That represented a 68.8 percent decline from Sunday. The Foreigner is running towards the higher end of expectations with a solid four-day take of $14.177 M. The Foreigner is outpacing the $12.877 M four-day start of 2010’s The Spy Next Door (the last Jackie Chan vehicle to receive a wide release) by 10.1 percent.

It was a very tight race for places fourth through seventh on Monday, with fourth and seventh place being separated by only $60,783 for the day.

Universal’s American Made took fourth place with $517 K. American Made was down 65.4 percent from Sunday and down 61.0 percent from last Monday. The 18-day total for American Made stands at $40.747 M.

Fox’s The Mountain Between Us rounded out Monday’s top five with $488 K. The Mountain Between Us declined 68.3 percent from Sunday and 65.5 percent from last Monday. The Mountain Between Us has grossed $21.092 M in eleven days.

Warner’s IT followed in sixth with $472 K. IT decreased 67.7 percent from Sunday and 67.0 percent from last Monday. IT has grossed a massive $315.407 M in 39 days, which currently ranks the film in 60th place on the all-time unadjusted domestic list.

Fox’s Kingsman: The Golden Circle landed in seventh with $456 K. The film slowed 69.7 percent from Sunday and 68.4 percent from last Monday. Kingsman: The Golden Circle passed the $90 M domestic mark yesterday and has grossed $90.172 M in 25 days.
