Daily Box Office Report
Tuesday, October 3, 2017

By Daniel Garris

Universal’s American Made grossed $2.012 M on Tuesday to lead the daily box office for a second straight day. American Made was up a strong 57.6 percent over Monday’s performance. The five-day total for American Made stands at $20.065 M, which is on the high end of expectations. American Made is running 26.1 percent behind the $27.150 M five-day launch of last year’s Jack Reacher: Never Go Back. Going forward, American Made is likely to hold up better than Jack Reacher: Never Go Back did due in part to significantly stronger critical reviews.

Fox’s Kingsman: The Golden Circle held steady in a close second with $1.835 M. Kingsman: The Golden Circle increased a healthy 55.0 percent over Monday, but still decreased a sizable 52.9 percent from last Tuesday. The film is on the verge of passing the $70 M mark with a twelve-day take of $69.656 M. Kingsman: The Golden Circle is running a slim 2.2 percent behind the $71.255 M twelve-day total of 2015’s Kingsman: The Secret Service.

Warner’s IT took in $1.383 M to remain in third place. IT was up 26.6 percent over Monday and down a solid 43.1 percent from last Tuesday. IT has grossed a massive $293.250 M in 26 days, which leaves the film just $6.75 M away from reaching the $300 M domestic milestone. Warner Bros. is set to have more good news this weekend with the release of the much anticipated Blade Runner 2049.

Sony’s Flatliners continued to claim fourth with $697 K. Flatliners was up 58.1 percent over Monday, but in the bigger picture the film continues to underwhelm with a softer than expected $7.712 M in five days. That places Flatliners 22.1 percent behind the $9.901 M five-day take of 2011’s The Thing.

Warner’s The LEGO Ninjago Movie rounded out the day’s unchanged top five with $642 K. The LEGO Ninjago Movie increased 57.0 percent over Monday and decreased a solid 42.1 percent from last Tuesday. The LEGO Ninjago Movie has grossed a significantly softer than expected $36.252 M in twelve days. The film is running a discouraging 10.7 percent behind the $40.578 M twelve-day haul of last year’s Storks.
