Daily Box Office Report
Wednesday, August 2, 2017

By Daniel Garris

Warner’s Dunkirk took in $3.513 M on Wednesday to remain in first place at the daily box office. Dunkirk has now led the daily box office for twelve of the past thirteen days. Dunkirk was down 21.4 percent from Tuesday and down only 32.1 percent from last Wednesday. It should be noted that yesterday’s daily holds in general were stronger than usual for a Wednesday. Dunkirk has grossed $112.627 M in thirteen days. That places the film 8.5 percent ahead of the $103.780 M grossed by 2014’s Interstellar after thirteen days of wide release. BoxOfficeReport is predicting a third weekend take of $16.3 M for Dunkirk.

Sony’s The Emoji Movie held steady in second place with $2.822 M. The Emoji Movie declined 32.1 percent from Tuesday’s performance. The Emoji Movie continues to run in line with expectations (and remain largely critic proof) with a solid six-day start of $34.343 M. That places The Emoji Movie 4.2 percent ahead of the $32.966 M six-day haul of 2015’s Pixels. BoxOfficeReport is predicting that The Emoji Movie will gross $12.0 M during its second weekend.

Universal’s Girls Trip continued to claim third with $2.037 M. Girls Trip decreased 28.4 percent from Tuesday and a very solid 35.5 percent from last Wednesday. Girls Trip continues to pad its status as the break-out comedy hit of the summer with a stronger than expected thirteen-day gross of $72.089 M. Girls Trip is running 24.6 percent ahead of the $57.838 M thirteen-day take of last year’s Bad Moms. BoxOfficeReport is predicting a third weekend gross of $12.5 M for Girls Trip.

Sony’s Spider-Man: Homecoming was up one spot from Tuesday to move back into fourth place on Wednesday with $1.861 M. Spider-Man: Homecoming continues to stabilize nicely, as the film was down 24.8 percent from Tuesday and down just 33.3 percent from last Wednesday. The 27-day total for Spider-Man: Homecoming stands at a healthy $284.327 M. BoxOfficeReport is predicting a fifth weekend take of $7.8 M for Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Focus’ Atomic Blonde was down one place to round Wednesday’s top five with $1.723 M. Atomic Blonde fell 32.7 percent from Tuesday and trailed Spider-Man: Homecoming by $137,286 on Wednesday. The modestly budgeted Atomic Blonde has grossed $24.375 M in six days, which places the film 31.9 percent ahead of the $18.483 M six-day start of 2014’s John Wick. BoxOfficeReport is predicting that Atomic Blonde will gross $8.2 M in its second weekend.
