| Sony’s Spider-Man: Homecoming moved back into first place at the daily box office on Tuesday with $7.536 M. For the day, Spider-Man: Homecoming led War for the Planet of the Apes
by $389,004. Spider-Man: Homecoming was up a healthy 38.1 percent over Monday and down 49.9 percent from last Tuesday, as the film looks to be stabilizing after its sharper than expected decline this past weekend.
The twelve-day total for Spider-Man: Homecoming stands at $220.267 M. That places Spider-Man: Homecoming an impressive 45.5 percent ahead of the $151.361 M twelve-day take of 2014’s
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and just 10.9 percent behind the $247.287 M twelve-day gross of 2007’s Spider-Man 3. |
| Fox’s War for the Planet of the Apes was down one spot from Monday to place in a close second with $7.147 M. War for the Planet of the Apes increased 23.5 percent over Monday’s
performance. The five-day start for War for the Planet of the Apes stands at $69.198 M, which is in line with expectations. War for the Planet of the Apes is running a slim 1.6 percent ahead of the
$68.132 M five-day launch of 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes and 23.5 percent behind the $90.449 M five-day haul of 2014’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. War for the Planet of the Apes is likely
to experience a sharper second weekend decline than each of its two predecessors, in part from the direct competition it will face from Warner’s Dunkirk. |
| Universal’s Despicable Me 3 held steady in third place with $3.995 M. Despicable Me 3 increased a strong 51.0 percent from Monday and decreased a solid 40.5 percent from last Tuesday.
Despicable Me 3 has grossed $195.041 M in 19 days, which places the film 27.6 percent behind the $269.550 M 19-day gross of 2015’s Minions. While Despicable Me 3 is running below expectations, the film
is having a very solid run with its relatively modest production budget for a high-profile computer animated film in mind. |
| Sony’s Baby Driver grossed $1.621 M to remain in fourth. Baby Driver was up 35.6 percent over Monday and down just 29.1 percent from last Tuesday. Thanks in part to strong critical
reviews and strong word of mouth, Baby Driver continues to outpace expectations with an impressive 21-day gross of $75.932 M. That already gives Baby Driver a current total gross to opening weekend ratio
of 3.69 to 1. |
| Warner’s Wonder Woman rounded out Tuesday’s top five with $1.195 M. Wonder Woman increased 36.6 percent over Monday and decreased a slim 27.1 percent from last Tuesday. Wonder Woman
has grossed a massive $382.674 M in 47 days and is only $4.072 M away from overtaking the $386.746 M current total gross of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 to become this summer’s highest grossing release. |
| Lionsgate’s The Big Sick continued to claim sixth place with $1.109 M. The Big Sick jumped 44.2 percent over Monday and 151.5 percent over last Tuesday (when the film was playing in just 326 locations).
The Big Sick has grossed $17.878 M in 26 days and will hope to hold up well going forward thanks in part to its strong critical reviews and strong word of mouth. |
