Paramount’s Transformers: The Last Knight debuted in first place on Wednesday with $15.659 M. The film’s opening day performance includes an estimated $5.50 M from Tuesday night preview shows.
Transformers: The Last Knight opened 63.8 percent softer than the $43.225 M opening day Wednesday take of 2011’s Transformers: Dark of the Moon (which also included Tuesday night previews), but
The Last Knight obviously wasn’t expected to perform anywhere near as strong as Dark of the Moon domestically. |
The opening day performance for Transformers: The Last Knight was a slim 4.9 percent below the $16.471 M Wednesday start of 2003’s Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (including Tuesday night previews) and
75.4 percent ahead of the $8.930 M Wednesday launch of 2015’s Terminator Genisys (also including Tuesday night previews). Depending on just how front-loaded it is over the next few days, Transformers: The Last Knight
currently appears headed for a lackluster five-day start somewhere in the area of $58 M - $70 M. |
After leading the box office for the previous five days, Disney’s Cars 3 fell to second on Wednesday with $4.339 M. Cars 3 declined a significant 35.9 percent from Tuesday, as the film
appears to have taken a bit of a hit from the debut of Transformers: The Last Knight. Cars 3 passed the $70 M mark yesterday and has grossed $70.277 M in six days, which is somewhat under expectations.
Cars 3 is running 7.8 percent ahead of the $65.192 M six-day start of 2014’s How to Train Your Dragon 2 and 18.0 percent behind the $85.724 M six-day launch of 2011’s Cars 2. |
Warner’s Wonder Woman was down one spot to place in third with $3.849 M. Wonder Woman decreased 29.3 percent from Tuesday and a solid 39.3 percent from last Wednesday
(when the film was still playing on IMAX screens). Wonder Woman has grossed a strong $289.197 M through 20 days. Today will see Wonder Woman zoom past by the $291.046 M final gross of 2013’s Man of Steel.
Wonder Woman is running 12.6 percent ahead of the $256.759 M 20-day gross of Man of Steel and 24.8 percent ahead of the $231.681 M 20-day take of 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy. |
Entertainment Studios Motion Pictures’ 47 Meters Down was up one spot from Tuesday to move into fourth place on Wednesday with $1.227 M. 47 Meters Down held up very nicely on Wednesday,
as the film was down just 25.1 percent from Tuesday. 47 Meters Down has grossed a significantly stronger than expected $15.589 M in six days. Wednesday’s performance is a good sign for 47 Meters Down this
coming weekend, as is the film’s expansion into an additional 199 locations on Friday. |
Lionsgate’s All Eyez on Me and Universal’s The Mummy placed in fifth and sixth on Wednesday with respective daily grosses of $1.203 M and $1.059 M. Both films were down sharply from
Tuesdsay, as All Eyez on Me declined 39.0 percent, while The Mummy fell 42.5 percent. Respective total grosses stand at a stronger than expected $31.708 M in six days for All Eyez on Me and at a
lackluster $61.613 M in 13 days for The Mummy. |
