Warner’s Wonder Woman was off to a healthy estimated $11.00 M start from Thursday night preview screenings that began at 7 PM. The preview gross for Wonder Woman was 15.6 percent stronger than
the $9.50 M preview gross of Logan earlier this year and 13.4 percent below the $12.70 M preview gross of 2016’s Deadpool. It should be noted that preview gross for Wonder Woman was likely deflated a bit
from competition from game 1 of the NBA Finals. As is normally the case, the Thursday night performance of Wonder Woman will be counted towards Friday’s opening day gross. |
Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales rounded out its first week of release with $3.435 M on Thursday. Dead Men Tell No Tales was down a sharp 19.2 percent from
Wednesday, as the film (and holdovers in general) took a clear hit from both Wonder Woman entering the marketplace and from Game 1 of the NBA Finals. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales was the
week’s top film with a seven-day start of $93.009 M. That was in line with expectations and places the film 18.1 percent behind the $113.595 M seven-day launch of 2011’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. |
Disney’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was up one spot from Wednesday to move into second place on Thursday with $1.407 M. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 declined 12.7 percent from
Wednesday and 41.5 percent from last Thursday. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 placed in second for the week with $32.425 M. The film was down just 30.4 percent from the previous week and has grossed a terrific
$345.741 M through four weeks of release. |
Paramount’s Baywatch was down one spot and 19.2 percent from Wednesday to land in third with $1.330 M. Baywatch fell a very sharp 71.1 percent from last Thursday’s opening day performance. For the week,
Baywatch placed in third with $28.618 M. Baywatch has grossed a softer than expected $33.224 M in eight days, which places the film 54.0 percent behind the $72.156 M eight-day take of 2013’s The Hangover Part III. |
Fox’s Alien: Covenant held steady in fourth place with $736 K. Alien: Covenant declined 22.8 percent from Wednesday and a sharp 58.6 percent from last Wednesday. Alien: Covenant
placed in fourth for the week with $16.397. That represented a troubling 65.0 percent decline from the film’s opening week performance and brings the film’s 14-day total to an underwhelming $63.219 M. |
Warner’s Everything, Everything rounded out Thursday’s top five with $531 K. The film experienced one of Thursday’s stronger daily holds among wide releases, as it was down 11.8 percent from
Wednesday and down 37.9 percent from last Thursday. Everything, Everything finished in fifth this week with $9.625 M. The 14-day total for Everything, Everything stands at a solid $24.982 M. |
