Disney’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 claimed first place on Monday with $3.597 M. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 declined 67.3 percent from Sunday and only 23.5 percent from last
Monday. Daily business in general yesterday received a boost from the Victoria Day holiday in Canada. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has led the daily box office for 17 of the past 18 days and has grossed a strong
$304.989 M to date. That places the film 35.2 percent ahead of the $225.546 M 18-day take of 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy and 10.5 percent behind the $340.868 M 18-day gross of 2013’s Iron Man 3. |
Fox’s Alien: Covenant placed in a close second on Monday with $3.323 M. Alien: Covenant was down 62.5 percent from Sunday’s performance and trailed Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 by
$274 K for the day. Alien: Covenant has grossed $39.484 M in four days of release, which is on the low end of expectations. The film is running an underwhelming 29.8 percent behind the $56.255 M four-day start of
2012’s Prometheus and 11.9 percent behind the $44.817 M four-day take of last year’s Independence Day: Resurgence. |
Warner’s King Arthur: Legend of the Sword took third place with $928 K. King Arthur: Legend of the Sword decreased 58.8 percent from Sunday and just 26.1 percent from last Monday. The
eleven-day take for the pricey King Arthur: Legend of the Sword stands at a disappointing $28.432 M. The film is currently running a slim 4.3 percent ahead of the $27.268 M eleven-day gross of 2015’s The Man from U.N.C.L.E. |
Fellow Warner Bros. release Everything, Everything followed in fourth with $876 K. Everything, Everything was down 65.8 percent from Sunday. The film has grossed $12.604 M in four days,
which is on the high end of expectations and represents a healthy start given the film’s modest $10 M production budget. Everything, Everything is running 25.6 percent behind the $16.947 M four-day start of 2014’s If I Stay. |
Fox’s Snatched rounded out Monday’s top five with $867 K. Snatched declined 61.4 percent from Sunday and 38.5 percent from last Monday. Snatched has grossed a solid $33.883 M in
eleven days, though the film continues to display signs of front-loading. Snatched is running 41.6 percent ahead of the $23.928 M eleven-day take of 2015’s Hot Pursuit. |
Fellow Fox release Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul placed in sixth with $537 K. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul was down 73.9 percent from Sunday, which represented one of the
day’s larger daily percentage declines. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul has grossed a lackluster $7.663 M in six days, which places the film 53.8 percent behind the $16.601 M four-day haul of 2012’s
Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days. |
