Daily Box Office Report
Wednesday, May 17, 2017

By Daniel Garris

Disney’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 claimed $3.972 M on Wednesday to remain in first place at the daily box office for a thirteenth consecutive day. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was down 33.2 percent from Tuesday and down a respectable 47.2 percent from last Wednesday. Guardians of the Galaxy 2 has grossed a strong $263.041 M in thirteen days. That places the film 36.1 percent ahead of the $193.319 M 13-day take of 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy and 11.9 percent behind the $298.595 M 13-day haul of 2013’s Iron Man 3. BoxOfficeReport is predicting that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will finish in a close second place this weekend with $37.0 M.

Fox’s Snatched held steady in second place with $1.215 M. Snatched declined a sizable 37.5 percent from Tuesday’s performance. Snatched continues to perform towards the higher end of expectations with a six-day take of $24.112 M. The film is running 41.5 percent ahead of the $17.036 M six-day gross of 2015’s Hot Pursuit and 41.4 percent behind the $41.134 M six-day start of 2015’s Trainwreck. BoxOfficeReport is predicting a second weekend gross of $9.0 M for Snatched.

Warner’s King Arthur: Legend of the Sword took in $1.054 M to remain in third. King Arthur: Legend of the Sword decreased a sharp 39.0 percent from Tuesday. The six-day total for King Arthur: Legend of the Sword stands at a disappointing $19.410 M. That is 7.6 percent ahead of the $18.046 M six-day start of 2015’s The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and 56.9 percent behind the $45.014 M six-day gross of 2010’s Robin Hood. BoxOfficeReport is predicting a second weekend take of $7.2 M for King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.

Universal’s The Fate of the Furious continued to occupy fourth place with $355 K. The Fate of the Furious was down 30.8 percent from Tuesday and down a solid 37.6 percent from last Wednesday. The Fate of the Furious has grossed $216.387 M in 34 days, which places the film 6.1 percent behind the $230.407 M 34-day haul of 2013’s Fast & Furious 6.

Disney’s Beauty and the Beast rounded out Wednesday’s unchanged top five with $283 K. Beauty and the Beast declined 26.2 percent from Tuesday and just 24.9 percent from last Wednesday. Beauty and the Beast has grossed a massive $495.108 M in 62 days, which leaves the film only $4.892 M away from reaching the $500 M domestic milestone.
