Fox and DreamWorks Animation’s The Boss Baby grossed $2.704 M on Wednesday to lead the daily box office for a sixth straight day. The Boss Baby was down 20.2 percent from Tuesday and down
only 0.6 percent from last Wednesday. It should be noted that holdovers in general yesterday continued to be helped out by Holy Week, but yesterday's daily hold for The Boss Baby was very strong even with that in mind.
The Boss Baby continues to exceed expectations with a thirteen-day gross of $97.709 M and is set to surpass the $100 M domestic mark today. BoxOfficeReport is predicting a second place take of $16.5 M for The Boss Baby this weekend. |
Disney’s Beauty and the Beast held steady in second place with $2.366 M. Beauty and the Beast was down 20.0 percent from Tuesday and down just 22.5 percent from last Wednesday.
Beauty and the Beast has grossed a massive $438.305 M in 27 days. The film currently stands in 14th place on the all-time unadjusted domestic chart and will soon pass by the $441.226 M total gross of 2004’s Shrek 2
to move into 13th place on the list. BoxOfficeReport is predicting a third place gross of $13.5 M for Beauty and the Beast this weekend. |
In a very close race for third place yesterday, Sony’s Smurfs: The Lost Village inched past Warner’s Going in Style with a daily take of $1.174 M. The two films were separated by a very
slim $36,610 for the day. Smurfs: The Lost Village declined 26.3 percent from Tuesday and has grossed a lackluster $16.913 M in six days. BoxOfficeReport expects Smurfs: The Lost Village and Going in Style
to remain close over the weekend and is predicting a second weekend gross of $7.3 M for Smurfs: The Lost Village. |
Going in Style claimed fourth place with $1.137 M. Going in Style was down 38.3 percent from Tuesday’s performance. That represented the day’s largest daily percentage among wide
releases, though that didn’t come as a surprise given the film’s especially strong daily hold on Tuesday. Going in Style is running ahead of consensus expectations with a solid six-day start of $15.956 M.
BoxOfficeReport is predicting a second weekend gross of $7.2 M for Going in Style. |
Paramount and DreamWorks’ Ghost in the Shell rounded out Wednesday’s top five with $719 K. Ghost in the Shell decreased 31.5 percent from Tuesday and 37.4 percent from last Wednesday. The
thirteen-day total for Ghost in the Shell stands at a disappointing $34.02 M. While Ghost in the Shell has stabilized over the past few days, the film is still highly likely to take a big hit this weekend from the highly
anticipated release of Universal’s The Fate of the Furious. |
Upon expanding into semi-wide release on Wednesday, Fox Searchlight’s Gifted moved into eighth place with $437 K. After five additional days of limited release in 56 locations, Gifted has
grossed $970 K in its first six days. Gifted earned a daily per-location average of $403 from 1,084 locations on Wednesday. The film will be playing in 1,146 locations this weekend. |
Meanwhile, Pure Flix’s The Case for Christ was down three spots and 26.4 percent from Tuesday to claim eleventh place on Wednesday with $406 K. The Case for Christ continues to perform in
line with expectations with a six-day start of $5.278 M. The Case for Christ is receiving an expansion this weekend and will be playing in 1,386 locations over the frame. |
