Disney’s Beauty and the Beast continued to rule the box office on Tuesday with $9.473 M. Beauty and the Beast increased 34.2 percent over Monday and decreased a solid 47.0 percent from
last Tuesday. Beauty and the Beast has grossed a massive $335.567 M in twelve days. That currently places the film in 45th place on the all-time unadjusted domestic chart, as the film has now surpassed the $334.191 M
final gross of 2010’s Alice in Wonderland. Beauty and the Beast is running 65.9 percent ahead of the $202.219 M twelve-day gross of last year’s The Jungle Book and 29.9 percent ahead of the $258.331 M
twelve-day take of 2012’s The Hunger Games. With those comparisons in mind, Beauty and the Beast is in excellent shape to eventually become only the eighth film ever to surpass the $500 million unadjusted
domestic mark. |
Lionsgate’s Saban’s Power Rangers held steady in second with $3.549 M. Power Rangers was up 27.7 percent from Monday’s performance. Power Rangers is running a bit ahead of expectations with
a five-day start of $46.627 M. The film's five-day gross is 11.6 percent ahead of the $41.763 M five-day take of last year’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows (which increased 26.9 percent on its first Tuesday to gross $3.606 M).
Power Rangers is set to surpass the $50 M mark on Thursday. |
Warner’s Kong: Skull Island grossed $1.737 M to remain in third place. The film was up 36.9 percent over Monday, but still down a sizable 53.5 percent from last Tuesday. Kong: Skull Island
continues to outpace expectations with a 19-day gross of $136.753 M. |
Sony’s Life continued to claim fourth with $1.445 M. Life was up 39.8 percent over Monday, which was among the day’s stronger daily holds among wide releases. With that said, Life is still
under-performing with a five-day start of $14.980 M. Life is running 5.4 percent behind the $15.842 M five-day take of 2015’s Chappie (which increased 27.1 percent on its first Tuesday to take in $1.396 M). |
Fox’s Logan rounded out Tuesday's top five with $1.241 M. Logan increased 27.1 percent over Monday and decreased 48.4 percent from last Tuesday. Logan is currently the second
highest grossing release of 2017 so far domestically with a 26-day take of $203.861 M. |
Universal’s Get Out took sixth place once again with $1.020 M. Get Out was up 21.4 percent over Monday and down 44.4 percent from last Tuesday. Get Out has grossed a terrific $149.530 M in 33 days and is set to surpass the $150 M domestic mark today. |
Warner’s CHIPS finished in seventh for the day with $865 K. CHIPS was up a healthy 41.3 percent over Monday, but in the bigger picture is still performing below its already modest expectations with a five-day start of just $9.201 M. |
In other box office news, Lionsgate’s The Shack passed the $50 M mark on Tuesday after grossing $582 K for the day. Thanks in part to healthy holding power, The Shack has grossed a stronger than expected $50.124 M in 26 days. |
