Disney’s Beauty and the Beast continued to rule the box office on Monday with a first place take of $13.532 M. Beauty and the Beast declined 72.0 percent from Sunday’s performance. In
comparison, 2012’s The Hunger Games fell 69.0 percent on its first Monday to gross $10.824 M, while 2010’s Alice in Wonderland fell 71.0 percent on its first Monday to take in $9.008 M. |
With a massive four-day gross of $188.282 M, Beauty and the Beast is running 15.3 percent ahead of the $163.360 M four-day start of The Hunger Games and 50.5 percent ahead of the
$125.109 M four-day launch of Alice in Wonderland. Additionally, the four-day start for Beauty and the Beast represents the sixth largest four-day gross of all-time. Beauty and the Beast has already
surpassed Logan to become the highest grossing release of 2017 thus far domestically and is likely to pass the $200 M milestone today. |
Warner’s Kong: Skull Island placed in a distant second with $2.244 M. Kong: Skull Island fell 72.9 percent from Sunday and a sharp 58.0 percent from last Monday (when the film was
still playing in IMAX locations). In the bigger picture, Kong: Skull Island continues to exceed expectations with an eleven-day gross of $111.351 M. Kong: Skull Island is currently running 11.7 percent
ahead of the $99.731 M eleven-day gross of 2005’s King Kong (which opened on a Wednesday). That lead will continue to shrink as a result of King Kong opening before Christmas. |
Fox’s Logan claimed third place with $1.608 M. Logan declined 69.7 percent from Sunday and a sizable 55.4 percent from last Monday. Logan has grossed $185.951 M in 18 days, which
currently ranks the film as the second highest grossing release of 2017 domestically. Logan is already the highest grossing of the three Wolverine solo films and is currently running just 2.8 percent behind the
$191.321 M 18-day gross of 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past. |
Universal’s Get Out grossed $1.298 M to take fourth. Get Out was down 65.4 percent from Sunday and down 44.5 percent from last Monday, which represented one of the day’s stronger
daily holds among wide releases. Get Out has grossed an extremely impressive $134.603 M in 25 days. That already places the film’s current total gross to opening weekend ratio at 4.03 to 1. |
Lionsgate’s The Shack rounded out Monday’s top five with $583 K. The Shack continues to display very solid holding power as the film decreased 68.2 percent from Sunday and 41.2
percent from last Monday. The Shack has grossed a stronger than expected $43.073 M in 18 days and is likely to continue holding up well between now and the Easter holiday. |
BH Tilt’s The Belko Experiment placed in sixth with $382 K. The Belko Experiment was down 63.4 percent from Sunday. The Belko Experiment has grossed $4.519 M in four days from
a relatively modest 1,341 locations. Compared to previous BH Tilt releases, The Belko Experiment is currently running 18.0 percent ahead of the $3.831 M four-day start of 2015’s The Green Inferno and 13.9
percent behind the $5.248 M four-day take of last year’s The Darkness. |
