| Universal and DreamWorks' 1917 grossed $3.400 million on Wednesday to lead the daily box office for a sixth straight day. 1917 declined a solid 35.7 percent from Tuesday's performance. Yesterday
saw 1917 pass the $50 million domestic mark. The film has grossed a strong $51.561 million through six days of wide release and an additional 16 days of platform release. 1917 is running 7.5 percent ahead of the $47.978 million
grossed by Lone Survivor through its first six days of wide release back in January of 2014. BoxOfficeReport is predicting a weekend take of $31.0 million for 1917 over the four-day MLK holiday frame. |
| GKIDS' Weathering With You took second place for the day with $1.594 million from event screenings in association with Fathom Events. Weathering With You played in 1,020 locations for the day, which
gave the Makoto Shinkai directed animated film a terrific daily per-location average of $1,563. Event screenings for Weathering With You will continue on Thursday, before the film moves into traditional moderate release on Friday.
Shinkai's previous film, Your Name., grossed $5.017 million during its domestic run back in 2017. |
| Disney's Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was down one spot from Tuesday to move into third on Wednesday with $1.262 million. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker did show signs of stabilizing yesterday,
as the film declined 32.0 percent from Tuesday and 47.5 percent from last Wednesday. However, that stabilization should be short lived as a result of the film playing in 1,226 fewer locations this weekend
(BoxOfficeReport is predicting a fifth weekend take of $9.7 million for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker over the four-day frame). In the bigger picture, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is the 16th highest grossing film of
all-time domestically with a 27-day take of $482.569 million and will soon be passing the $486.296 million total gross of 2016's Finding Dory to move into 15th place. |
| Sony's Little Women held steady in fourth place with $1.041 million. The Academy Award nominee for Best Picture was down 28.4 percent from Tuesday and down just 27.9 percent from last Wednesday.
Little Women has grossed $77.50 million in 22 days, which already gives the film a strong current total gross to opening weekend ratio of 4.63 to 1. With the added benefit of the film's recent Best Picture nomination,
BoxOfficeReport expects Little Women to continue to hold up very well this weekend with a predicted fourth weekend haul of $8.0 million over the holiday frame. |
| Fellow Sony release Jumanji: The Next Level was down two spots from Tuesday to round out Wednesday's top five with $830,281. That represented a 42.9 percent decline from Tuesday and a solid 40.1 percent
decline from last Wednesday. The 34-day total for Jumanji: The Next Level stands at a healthy $260.186 million. BoxOfficeReport is predicting a sixth weekend take of $11.8 million for Jumanji: The Next Level over the
four-day frame. |
| Warner's Just Mercy was down one place from Tuesday to claim sixth on Wednesday with $766,216. On the heels of Tuesday's strong daily percentage increase, Just Mercy decreased a reasonable
43.3 percent on Wednesday. Just Mercy has grossed $12.938 million through six days of wide release and an additional 16 days of platform release. BoxOfficeReport is predicting that Just Mercy will display strong holding
power this weekend with $9.3 million over the holiday frame. |
