| Warner’s Joker continued its impressive start of Monday with a first place take of $9.702 million. Joker held up very nicely yesterday, as the film was down just 60.2 percent from Sunday’s
performance. In comparison, last year’s Venom fell 55.0 percent on its first Monday to gross $9.631 million (though it should also be noted that Venom had the aid of Columbus Day and Thanksgiving in Canada on its first Monday, while the holidays will fall next Monday this year).
Joker passed the $100 million domestic mark yesterday and continues to outpace its lofty expectations with a four-day start of $105.904 million. That is 17.8 percent ahead of the $89.887 million four-day launch of Venom. |
| Focus’ Downton Abbey placed in a distant second on Monday with $945,085. That represented a 60.4 percent decline from Sunday and a respectable 43.3 percent decline from last Monday. Downton Abbey
has grossed a stronger than expected $74.562 million through 18 days of release. Downton Abbey is likely receiving a bit of an added boost this week from serving as the primary alternative for the portion of adult moviegoers
not interested in watching Joker. |
| Universal, DreamWorks Animation and Pearl Studio’s Abominable claimed third place with $746,740. Abominable was down 79.5 percent from Sunday and down a sharp 53.6 percent from last Monday’s
performance (which had been inflated a bit from the Rosh Hashanah holiday). With an eleven-day take of $38.502 million, Abominable is running in line with expectations and 15.0 percent behind the $45.316 million eleven-day
gross of last year’s Smallfoot. |
| Roadside and LD Entertainment’s Judy continued to perform nicely on Monday with an estimated fourth place take of $570,000. Judy decreased 58.9 percent from Sunday and thanks to good word of
mouth and playing in 997 more locations this week was up 63.6 percent over last Monday. Judy has grossed a promising $9.627 million in eleven days and is set to surpass the $10 million domestic mark today. |
| STXfilms’ Hustlers rounded out Monday’s top five with $565,101. Hustlers declined 64.6 percent from Sunday and a respectable 45.2 percent from last Monday. While Hustlers has lost some
momentum after the release of Joker, in the bigger picture Hustlers continues to impress in a big way with a 25-day haul of $91.981 million. That leaves Hustlers $8.019 million away from the $100 million domestic mark. |
