| Disney’s The Lion King continued to rule the daily box office with ease on Wednesday after taking in $17.037 million for the day. That was down a sharp, but understandable 43.9 percent from Tuesday’s
historic daily performance. The Lion King passed the $250 million domestic mark yesterday and has grossed an exceptional $260.251 million in six days. That represents the seventh largest six-day start of all-time.
The Lion King is running 19.5 percent ahead of the $217.700 million six-day take of 2017’s Beauty and the Beast (which declined 35.5 percent on its first Wednesday to gross $11.539 million) and a slim 2.8 percent ahead
of the $253.113 million six-day launch of last year’s Incredibles 2 (which declined 27.1 percent on its first Wednesday to gross $19.737 million). BoxOfficeReport is predicting a second weekend gross of $93.0 million for
The Lion King. |
| Sony’s Spider-Man: Far From Home held steady in second place with $2.668 million. Spider-Man: Far From Home declined 38.9 percent from Tuesday and a sharp 50.7 percent from last Wednesday
(when the film was still playing on IMAX screens). Spider-Man: Far From Home has grossed a spectacular $329.802 million in 23 days, which is 20.2 percent ahead of the $274.361 million 23-day haul of 2017’s
Spider-Man: Homecoming. BoxOfficeReport is predicting that Spider-Man: Far From Home will gross $12.5 million in its fourth weekend. |
| Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 4 grossed $2.003 million to remain in third. Toy Story 4 was down 39.3 percent from Tuesday and down a respectable 41.8 percent from last Wednesday. With a healthy
34-day gross of $383.825 million, Toy Story 4 is now $16.175 million away from reaching the $400 million domestic milestone. The film is running 4.1 percent ahead of the $368.682 million 34-day take of 2010’s Toy Story 3.
BoxOfficeReport is predicting a sixth weekend gross of $10.5 million for Toy Story 4. |
| Paramount’s Crawl and Universal’s Yesterday claimed fourth and fifth place with respective daily grosses of $757,647 and $644,155. Crawl was down 40.2 percent from Tuesday and down a
solid 38.8 percent from last Wednesday, while Yesterday declined 35.0 percent from Tuesday and 40.8 percent from last Wednesday. Respective total grosses stand at $59.795 million for Yesterday through 27 days and at
$26.751 million for Crawl in thirteen days. BoxOfficeReport is predicting respective weekend grosses of $3.8 million for Crawl and $3.7 million for Yesterday. |
