| Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 4 took in a healthy $20.571 million on Tuesday to easily lead the daily box office for a fifth consecutive day. On the heels of Monday’s relatively sharp decline,
Toy Story 4 rebounded very nicely on Tuesday with a daily increase of 45.4 percent. In comparison, 2010’s Toy Story 3 decreased 3.1 percent on its first Tuesday to gross $15.123 million, while 2016’s
Finding Dory increased 18.5 percent to take in $23.192 million. Through five days, Toy Story 4 has grossed a healthy, albeit less than expected $155.632 million. That places the film 10.3 percent ahead of the
$141.036 million five-day haul of Toy Story 3 and 12.5 percent behind the $177.824 million five-day launch of Finding Dory. BoxOfficeReport is predicting that Toy Story 4 will easily remain in first place this
weekend with $57.0 million. |
| Fellow Disney release Aladdin held steady in second for the day with $2.736 million. The Will Smith-led Aladdin continues to display terrific holding power, as the film was up 58.2 percent over
Monday and down only 29.4 percent from last Tuesday. With a significantly stronger than expected 33-day take of $293.019 million, Aladdin is just $6.981 million away from reaching the $300 million domestic milestone.
BoxOfficeReport is predicting that Aladdin will gross $9.0 million in its sixth weekend, which will take the film beyond the $300 million domestic mark. |
| Universal and Illumination’s The Secret Life of Pets 2 was up one spot from Monday to move into third place on Tuesday with $2.385 million. The Secret Life of Pets 2 was up 70.9 percent over Monday,
but still down a sharp 54.8 percent from last Tuesday. Through 19 days of release, The Secret Life of Pets 2 has grossed $121.346 million, which is below scaled back expectations. With the opening weekend of Toy Story 4
now in the past, BoxOfficeReport is predicting that The Secret Life of Pets 2 will stabilize this weekend with a fourth weekend take of $6.6 million. |
| Sony’s Men in Black: International was also up one spot over Monday to claim fourth place on Tuesday with $2.068 million. Men in Black: International was up 56.2 percent from Monday and down a sharp
54.0 percent from last Tuesday (when the film was still playing on IMAX screens). Men in Black: International has grossed $56.033 million in twelve days, which is in line with the film’s relatively modest consensus expectations.
BoxOfficeReport is predicting that Men in Black: International will gross $5.8 million in its third weekend. |
| United Artists Releasing and Orion’s Child’s Play was down two spots from Monday to round out Tuesday’s top five with $1.737 million. Child’s Play was up a modest 15.4 percent from Monday, as
built-in front-loading and new competition from the release of fellow horror film Annabelle Comes Home on Tuesday night both came into play yesterday. Child’s Play has grossed $17.337 million in five days, which is on the
very low end of expectations. BoxOfficeReport is predicting a second weekend gross of $5.1 million for Child’s Play. |
| In other box office news, the latest installment of The Conjuring Universe; Warner and New Line’s Annabelle Comes Home was off to a nice start on Tuesday night with an estimated $3.50 million from
preview shows that began at 5PM. As is standard practice, Tuesday’s preview grosses for Annabelle Comes Home will be counted towards Wednesday’s opening day performance. In comparison to other recent summer Wednesday openers,
the preview gross for Annabelle Comes Home was 40.0 percent ahead of the $2.50 million Tuesday night preview gross of last year’s The First Purge and 36.4 percent behind the $5.50 million Tuesday night preview gross of
2017’s Transformers: The Last Knight (both of which had previews beginning at 7PM). With the film’s healthy preview gross in mind, Annabelle Comes Home could be headed for a five-day start in the neighborhood of
$40 million. |
