Daily Box Office Report
Wednesday, June 19, 2019

By Daniel Garris

Universal and Illumination’s The Secret Life of Pets 2 took in $3.382 million on Wednesday to continue to lead the daily box office. The Secret Life of Pets 2 held up well yesterday, as the film was down 35.9 percent from Tuesday and down just 24.1 percent from last Wednesday. The Secret Life of Pets 2 has grossed $104.258 million after thirteen days, which places the film a lackluster 36.6 percent behind the $164.520 million thirteen-day haul of 2017’s Despicable Me 3. With Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 4 entering the marketplace this weekend, BoxOfficeReport is predicting that The Secret Life of Pets 2 will experience a sharp percentage decline in its third weekend with $12.0 million.

Sony’s Men in Black: International took in $2.555 million to hold off Disney’s Aladdin in a very close race for second place. Men in Black: International was down a sharp 43.2 percent from Tuesday’s performance. The six-day start for Men in Black: International stands at relatively modest $39.856 million, which is towards the lower end of scaled back expectations. It should be reminded that with a reported production budget of $110 million, Men in Black: International is significantly less expensive than most high-profile sequels. BoxOfficeReport is predicting a second weekend gross of $12.3 million for Men in Black: International.

Aladdin finished in a very close third place with $2.549 million. Aladdin trailed Men in Black: International by a very slim $5,678 for the day and is likely to move ahead of Men in Black: International in the daily rankings today. Aladdin continues to hold up very well, as the film was down 34.2 percent from Tuesday and down only 20.8 percent from last Wednesday. With a significantly stronger than expected 27-day take of $272.865 million, Aladdin is $27.135 million away from reaching the $300 million domestic mark. BoxOfficeReport is predicting that Aladdin will take in $12.5 million in its fifth weekend.

Paramount’s Rocketman was up one spot from Tuesday to move into fourth place on Wednesday with $1.168 million, while Warner and Legendary’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters was also up one spot to claim fifth with $1.015 million. Rocketman was down 27.1 percent from Tuesday and down 26.2 percent from last Wednesday; meanwhile Godzilla: King of the Monsters declined 29.8 percent from Tuesday and 36.0 percent from last Wednesday. Through 20 days of release, respective total grosses stand at a softer than expected $97.865 million for Godzilla: King of the Monsters and at a very solid $70.583 million for Rocketman. BoxOfficeReport is predicting respective weekend grosses of $6.0 million for Rocketman and $4.4 million for Godzilla: King of the Monsters.
