| Universal and Illumination’s The Secret Life of Pets 2 took in $4.601 million on Monday to lead the daily box office for a fourth consecutive day. That represented a 65.4 percent decline from Sunday’s
performance. The Secret Life of Pets 2 has grossed $52.179 million after four days of release. The film is running below already scaled back expectations and a lackluster 39.5 percent behind the $86.292 million four-day start
of fellow Universal and Illumination film Despicable Me 3 during the summer of 2017. |
| Disney’s Aladdin placed in second on Monday with $3.193 million. Aladdin continued to hold up nicely yesterday, as the film was down 59.8 percent from Sunday and down only 32.1 percent from last
Monday. The 18-day total for Aladdin stands at a significantly stronger than expected $235.760 million. Aladdin is running just 7.8 percent behind the $255.775 million 18-day take of 2016’s The Jungle Book; a
comparison which points towards Aladdin eventually surpassing the $300 million domestic mark. |
| Disney and Fox’s Dark Phoenix followed in third place with $2.484 million. Dark Phoenix continued to display significant early front-loading yesterday, as the poorly received (and expensive) superhero
sequel was down a sizable 68.7 percent from Sunday. Dark Phoenix has grossed a softer than expected $35.312 million in four days. That is a disappointing 55.8 percent behind the $79.810 million four-day start of 2016’s
X-Men: Apocalypse. |
| Warner and Legendary’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters claimed fourth with $1.674 million. That was down 66.1 percent from Sunday and down a sharp 56.5 percent from last Monday.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters passed the $80 million domestic mark yesterday and has grossed a softer than expected $80.182 million through eleven days. The film is running 28.0 percent behind the $111.351 million eleven-day
haul of 2017’s Kong: Skull Island. |
| Paramount’s Rocketman rounded out Monday’s top five with $1.601 million. Rocketman declined 63.0 percent from Sunday and just 32.6 percent from last Monday. Yesterday’s strong daily hold could be a
sign of the film stabilizing as it goes forward. Rocketman has grossed $51.916 million after eleven days, which is towards the lower end of expectations and is very solid with the film’s relatively modest production budget in mind. |
