| Captain Marvel continued to lead the daily box office with ease on Monday with $10.987 million. That represented the third largest first-Monday gross ever for the month of March; behind only 2016’s
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice ($15.04 million) and 2017’s Beauty and the Beast ($13.53 million), and just ahead of the $10.82 million first-Monday gross of 2012’s The Hunger Games. Monday’s performance for
Captain Marvel was down 71.7 percent from Sunday. The four-day start for Captain Marvel stands at an exceptional $164.42 million. That is a healthy 5.1 percent ahead of the $156.37 million four-day start of 2017’s
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (which declined 74.8 percent on its first Monday to gross $9.86 million). |
| Internationally, Captain Marvel grossed an estimated $22.4 million on Monday. That brings the film’s international total to $325.6 million and current global haul to a massive $490.0 million. Current
international totals for Captain Marvel include $95.0 million in China, $25.3 million in South Korea, $18.1 million in the United Kingdom, $14.7 million in Brazil, $13.7 million in Mexico, $12.0 million in Australia,
$11.8 million in Indonesia, $11.3 million in Russia, $9.6 million in France, $8.4 million in Germany and $7.7 million in India. Captain Marvel will obviously zoom past the $500 million global mark today. |
| Universal and DreamWorks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World placed in second with $1.412 million. That represented a decline of 69.8 percent from Sunday and a decline of just 21.3
percent from last Monday. Family films in general held up well in comparison to last Monday; a sign that more schools are off for Spring Break this week than last week. Through 18 days of release,
How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World has grossed a very healthy $121.06 million. The film is running a slim 2.5 percent behind the $124.23 million 18-day haul of 2014’s How to Train Your Dragon 2. |
| Lionsgate’s Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral claimed third place with $1.059 million. A Madea Family Funeral was down 70.0 percent from Sunday and down a very solid 37.5 percent from last Monday.
A Madea Family Funeral continues to outpace expectations with $47.35 million in eleven days. Yesterday also saw A Madea Family Funeral surpass the $47.32 million final domestic gross of 2017’s Boo 2! A Madea Halloween. |
| Warner’s The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part and Fox’s Alita: Battle Angel took fourth and fifth for the day with respective daily grosses of $435,716 and $331,357. Respective total grosses stand at
$97.59 million for The LEGO Movie 2 through 32 days and at $78.69 million for Alita: Battle Angel in 26 days. |
