Disney’s Ralph Breaks the Internet took in $2.252 million on Monday to lead the daily box office for a sixth consecutive day. That represented an 83.1 percent decline from Sunday; a sure sign of how
heavily the film is skewing towards family audiences. In comparison, 2016’s Moana fell a similar 82.7 percent on its first Monday to gross $2.332 million. The six-day haul for Ralph Breaks the Internet stands at a
stronger than expected $87.002 million. That places the film 3.1 percent ahead of the $84.412 million six-day start of Moana and a very impressive 48.5 percent ahead of the $58.573 million six-day take of 2012’s
Wreck-It Ralph (which opened on a Friday). |
MGM’s Creed II placed in a close second on Monday with $2.106 million. For the day, Creed II trailed Ralph Breaks the Internet by just $146,256. Creed II was down 72.9 percent
from Sunday’s performance. The six-day launch for Creed II stands at $58.113 million, which is towards the higher end of pre-release expectations. Creed II is running a very healthy 31.9 percent ahead of the
$44.045 million six-day start of 2015’s Creed (which declined 69.9 percent on its first Monday to gross $1.927 million). |
Warner’s Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald claimed third place with $1.594 million. That represented a 75.4 percent decrease from Sunday and a very sharp 68.6 percent decrease from last
Monday’s inflated pre-Thanksgiving performance. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is running a bit below expectations with a respectable $118.148 million in eleven days. That places the film an underwhelming
25.3 percent behind the $158.175 million eleven-day take of 2016’s Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them. |
Universal and Illumination’s Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch followed in fourth with $1.314 million. The Grinch was down 81.7 percent from Sunday and down a very sharp 71.8 percent from last Monday. Thanks
in part to strong holding power thus far, The Grinch has grossed an excellent $181.809 million in 18 days. The Grinch is running 13.7 percent ahead of the $159.839 million 18-day take of 2012’s
Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax and should continue to widen the percentage gap between it and The Lorax, thanks in part to the ongoing holiday season. |
Fox’s Bohemian Rhapsody rounded out Monday’s top five with $960,146. The breakout Queen biopic was down 70.6 percent from Sunday and down a solid 49.9 percent from last Monday. Bohemian Rhapsody
passed the $150 million domestic mark over the weekend and has grossed a stronger than expected $153.118 million through 25 days of release. |
On the platform front, Fox Searchlight’s The Favourite continued to impress on Monday with $35,565 from 4 locations in New York and Los Angeles. That was down 65.4 percent from Sunday and gave the film
a massive per-location average of $8,891 for the day. The four-day platform launch for The Favourite stands at $457,975. On Friday, The Favourite is scheduled to open in Austin, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Phoenix,
San Francisco and Washington D.C. |
