Daily Box Office Report
Monday, October 29, 2018

By Daniel Garris

Universal’s Halloween led the daily box office for an eleventh consecutive day on Monday after grossing $2.471 million for the day. Halloween was down 68.9 percent from Sunday and down a very respectable 46.8 percent from last Monday. Halloween is currently receiving an added boost from playing on IMAX screens and is likely to get an additional boost today and Wednesday thanks to the approaching Halloween holiday. The eleven-day total for Halloween stands at an exceptional $128.547 million. That places the film an impressive 48.7 percent ahead of the recent $86.423 million eleven-day haul of The Nun.

Warner’s A Star is Born claimed second place with $1.321 million. A Star is Born continued to display terrific holding power yesterday as the film declined 66.1 percent from Sunday and just 28.4 percent from last Monday. A Star is Born has grossed a very strong $149.935 million after 25 days of wide release and is obviously set to surpass the $150 million domestic mark today. The current total gross to opening weekend ratio for A Star is Born already stands at 3.49 to 1.

Sony’s Venom placed in third with $802,489. Venom was down 73.4 percent from Sunday and down a solid 37.7 percent from last Monday, as the film continues to stabilize. Yesterday did represent the first day that Venom dipped below the $1 million mark for a single day. The 25-day total for Venom stands at a stronger than expected $187.937 million, which leaves the film $12.063 million away from the $200 million domestic mark.

Lionsgate’s Hunter Killer took fourth place for the day with $621,605. Hunter Killer was down 62.1 percent from Sunday, which represented a healthy daily hold. However, in the bigger picture Hunter Killer has grossed just $7.275 million in four days, which is towards the lower end of the modest expectations for the film.

Universal’s First Man and Fox’s The Hate U Give claimed fifth and sixth place for the day with respective daily grosses of $406,330 and $394,946. Respective current total grosses for the critically acclaimed films stand at $38.215 million in 18 days for First Man and at $18.697 million in 25 days for The Hate U Give.
