Daily Box Office Report
Monday, July 30, 2018

By Daniel Garris

Paramount’s Mission: Impossible – Fallout grossed $6.839 million on Monday to lead the daily box office for a fourth consecutive day. That represented a 59.8 percent decline from Sunday’s performance. In comparison, 2015’s Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation decreased 56.4 percent on its first Monday to gross a similar $6.790 million. Mission: Impossible – Fallout has grossed $68.08 million in four days, which is in line with expectations and places the film 9.3 percent ahead of the $62.310 million four-day start of Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation.

Universal’s Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again placed in second with $2.602 million. Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again was down only 44.4 percent from Sunday, but still down a sizable 47.0 percent from last Monday. Thanks in part to continued strong midweek business, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again has grossed a healthy $73.127 million in eleven days. Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again is running 11.9 percent ahead of the $65.362 million eleven-day take of 2008’s Mamma Mia!

Sony’s Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation took third for the day with $1.871 million. Hotel Transylvania 3 declined 48.7 percent from Sunday and a respectable 43.5 percent from last Monday. The 18-day total for Hotel Transylvania 3 stands at a strong $121.047 million. Yesterday saw Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation pass the $119.177 million final gross of 2013’s Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 to become the fifth highest grossing film ever domestically for Sony Pictures Animation.

Fellow Sony release The Equalizer 2 claimed fourth place with $1.576 million. The Equalizer 2 was down 63.2 percent from Sunday and down a very sharp 57.3 percent from last Monday. The Equalizer 2 has grossed a stronger than expected $65.827 million in eleven days, which places the film just ahead of the $65.709 million eleven-day take of 2014’s The Equalizer.

Disney’s Ant-Man and The Wasp rounded out Monday’s top five with $1.279 million. That represented a 53.2 percent decrease from Sunday and a respectable 43.7 percent decline from last Monday. With a 25-day gross of $184.769 million, Ant-Man and The Wasp is running a healthy 24.3 percent ahead of the $148.615 million 25-day haul of 2015’s Ant-Man.

Warner’s Teen Titans GO! To The Movies followed in sixth place with $1.189 million. Teen Titans GO! To The Movies was down 55.5 percent from Sunday’s performance. The four-day start for Teen Titans GO! To The Movies stands at $11.601 million. That is below pre-release expectations, but is still respectable with the film’s low production budget in mind.

In other box office news, Disney’s Incredibles 2 passed the $1 billion global mark on Monday. To date, Incredibles 2 has grossed $574.0 million domestically and $430.9 million internationally for an incredible global total of $1.005 billion. On Monday, Incredibles 2 took seventh place domestically with $1.148 million for the day.
