Daily Box Office Report
Wednesday, July 11, 2018

By Daniel Garris

Disney’s Ant-Man and The Wasp took in $5.853 million on Wednesday to lead the daily box office for a sixth consecutive day. However, Ant-Man and The Wasp continued to display early front-loading yesterday as the film was down a very sharp 41.7 percent from Tuesday. Ant-Man and The Wasp has grossed $98.692 million in six days, which is in line with the film’s lofty expectations. The film is running 28.8 percent ahead of the $76.603 million six-day start of 2015’s Ant-Man (which declined 34.8 percent on its first Wednesday to gross $5.120 million). BoxOfficeReport is predicting a second weekend gross of $29.5 million for Ant-Man and The Wasp, with the film’s initial front-loading in mind.

Fellow Disney release Incredibles 2 held steady in second with $3.616 million. Incredibles 2 was down 31.9 percent from Tuesday and down a sharp 62.5 percent from last Wednesday’s inflated Independence Day performance. Incredibles 2 has grossed an incredible $516.237 million in 27 days, which leaves the film just $15.94 million away from passing 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story to move into tenth place on the all-time unadjusted domestic list. With added competition from Sony’s Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation, BoxOfficeReport is predicting that Incredibles 2 will take in $16.0 million in its fifth weekend.

Universal’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom grossed $3.241 million to remain in third place. That represented a 34.1 percent decline from Tuesday and a very sharp 71.8 percent decrease from Independence Day. The 20-day total for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom stands at a mighty $344.914 million. That places the film 10.9 percent ahead of the $310.912 million 20-day haul of last year’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. BoxOfficeReport is predicting a fourth weekend gross of $15.0 million for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

Fellow Universal release The First Purge continued to claim fourth with $1.962 million. The First Purge was down 33.3 percent from Tuesday and down a very sharp 78.9 percent from last Wednesday’s opening day take. The First Purge continues to perform in line with expectations with an eight-day start of $38.574 million. The film is running 23.6 percent behind the $50.461 million eight-day total of 2016’s The Purge: Election Year. With aid from Friday the 13th, BoxOfficeReport is predicting that The First Purge will gross $8.5 million in its second weekend.

Sony’s Sicario: Day of the Soldado and Lionsgate’s Uncle Drew placed in fifth and sixth with respective daily grosses of $853,587 and $806,921. Respective thirteen-day grosses stand at $38.589 million for Sicario: Day of the Soldado and at $32.815 million for Uncle Drew. BoxOfficeReport is predicting third weekend grosses of $3.6 million for Sicario: Day of the Soldado and $3.2 million for Uncle Drew.
