Daily Box Office Report
Monday, July 9, 2018

By Daniel Garris

Disney’s Ant-Man and The Wasp grossed $6.984 million on Monday to lead the daily box office for a fourth consecutive day. Ant-Man and The Wasp was down 62.3 percent from Sunday, which represented the day’s sharpest daily percentage decline among wide releases. Ant-Man and The Wasp passed the $80 million mark on Monday and has grossed a very solid $82.796 million through four days. That places Ant-Man and The Wasp 30.1 percent ahead of the $63.629 million four-day start of 2015’s Ant-Man (which declined 57.6 percent on its first Monday to gross $6.404 million) and 9.3 percent behind the $91.268 million four-day launch of 2016’s Doctor Strange (which fell 70.6 percent on its first Monday to take in $6.210 million).

Fellow Disney release Incredibles 2 placed in second with $3.544 million. That represented a 55.9 percent decline from Sunday and a sharp 53.8 percent decrease from last Monday. Yesterday saw Incredibles 2 pass the $504.014 million final domestic gross of last year’s Beauty and the Beast to become the highest grossing PG-rated film of all-time domestically and to move into eleventh place on the all-time domestic list. The 25-day total for Incredibles 2 stands at $503.768 million, which ranks the film as the highest grossing animated film of all-time domestically.

Universal’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom followed closely behind in third place with $3.361 million. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom was down 60.2 percent from Sunday and down a very sharp 60.8 percent from last Monday. The 18-day take for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom stands at a mighty $336.751 million. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is running 10.4 percent ahead of the $304.989 million 18-day haul of last year’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (which declined 67.3 percent on its second Monday to gross $3.597 million).

Fellow Universal release The First Purge claimed fourth place with $2.390 million. That represented a 52.1 percent decrease from Sunday, which represented one of the day’s stronger daily percentage holds among wide releases. The First Purge continues to perform in line with expectations with a six-day start of $33.670 million. That places The First Purge 22.9 percent behind the $43.666 million six-day take of 2016’s The Purge: Election Year (which opened on a Friday).

Sony’s Sicario: Day of the Soldado and Lionsgate’s Uncle Drew placed in fifth and sixth with respective daily grosses of $926,713 and $837,765. Sicario: Day of the Soldado was down 62.1 percent from Sunday and down 56.9 percent from last Monday, while Uncle Drew slowed 55.4 percent from Sunday and 53.8 percent from last Monday. Respective eleven-day grosses stand at $36.553 million for Sicario: Day of the Soldado and at $30.768 million for Uncle Drew.
