Fox’s Deadpool 2 took in $8.032 million on Wednesday to lead the daily box office for a sixth straight day. That represented a 35.2 percent decline from Tuesday’s performance.
Deadpool 2 has grossed a healthy $157.947 million through six days of release. That places the film 6.7 percent ahead of the $147.966 million six-day launch of last year’s Thor: Ragnarok
(which declined 43.2 percent on its first Wednesday to take in $6.148 million) and 8.4 percent behind the $172.371 million six-day start of 2016’s Deadpool
(which decreased 25.5 percent on its first Wednesday to gross $8.618 million). BoxOfficeReport is predicting a four-day second weekend take of $63.0 million for Deadpool 2. |
Paramount’s Book Club was up one spot from Tuesday to move into second place on Wednesday with $2.05 million. Book Club continued to display strong early holding power on Tuesday, as
the film declined 26.9 percent from Wednesday. Book Club passed the $20 million mark yesterday and has grossed a very promising $20.335 million in six days. The film is running 16.2 percent ahead of the $17.507 million
six-day start of 2005’s The Family Stone. BoxOfficeReport expects Book Club to continue to hold up very well over the holiday frame with a four-day second weekend gross of $13.0 million. |
Disney’s Avengers: Infinity War was down one spot from Tuesday to land in third on Wednesday with $1.901 million. Avengers: Infinity War declined 33.5 percent from Tuesday and a sharp
54.7 percent from last Wednesday (when the film was still playing on IMAX screens). The 27-day total for Avengers: Infinity War stands at a massive $603.283 million. BoxOfficeReport is predicting a four-day holiday
take of $22.0 million for Avengers: Infinity War. That would move Avengers: Infinity War past last year’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi and 2012’s Marvel’s The Avengers to rank in sixth place on the
all-time domestic list by the end of the holiday frame. |
Warner’s Life of the Party and Universal’s Breaking In continued to claim fourth and fifth place with respective daily grosses of $676,119 and $532,945. Life of the Party
decreased 34.9 percent from Tuesday and 44.8 percent from last Wednesday, while Breaking In declined 39.8 percent from Tuesday and 41.5 percent from last Wednesday. Respective thirteen-day grosses stand at
$33.367 million for Life of the Party (which is on the low end of expectations) and at $31.113 million for Breaking In (which is on the high end of expectations). For the holiday frame, BoxOfficeReport is
predicting respective four-day grosses of $5.5 million for Life of the Party and $4.7 million for Breaking In. |
On the platform front, Warner’s re-issue of 2001: A Space Odyssey remained impressive on Wednesday with $40,944 from 4 locations in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and San Francisco. That gave
the film a mighty per-location average of $10,236 for the day. The six-day platform start for the 2001: A Space Odyssey re-issue stands at $299,785. 2001: A Space Odyssey will continue to play in 4 locations
over the holiday frame. |
