Fox’s Deadpool 2 took in $12.007 million on Monday to dominate the daily box office for a fourth consecutive day. Deadpool 2 declined
62.5 percent from Sunday’s performance. That was among the day’s better daily percentage holds, on a day where the marketplace in general received an added boost from the
Victoria Day holiday in Canada. Deadpool 2 has grossed a very healthy $137.514 million in four days of release. The film is running 5.0 percent ahead of the
$130.993 million four-day start of last year’s Thor: Ragnarok (which slowed 74.3 percent on its first Monday to gross $8.248 million) and 9.6 percent behind the
$152.194 million four-day launch of 2016’s Deadpool (which decreased 53.6 percent to gross $19.759 million on Presidents’ Day Monday). Deadpool 2 and the
marketplace in general will soon face new major competition when Disney’s Solo: A Star Wars Story enters the marketplace on Friday. |
Disney’s Avengers: Infinity War placed in second with $2.708 million. That represented a 71.0 percent decrease from Sunday and a solid 41.5 percent decline
from last Monday. Avengers: Infinity War has grossed $598.522 million in 25 days and is set to surpass the $600 million domestic mark today. Avengers: Infinity War is running
14.2 percent ahead of the $523.907 million 25-day haul of 2012’s Marvel’s The Avengers and 5.8 percent ahead of the $565.733 million 25-day take of Black Panther earlier this
year (though the percentage gap between the two will continue to shrink going forward with daily grosses for Avengers: Infinity War now running significantly below the daily grosses
of Black Panther at the same point in its run). |
Paramount’s Book Club continued to perform very nicely on Monday with a third place take of $1.901 million. Book Club held up extremely well yesterday,
as the film was down just 52.9 percent from Sunday. That represented the day’s strongest daily percentage hold among wide releases. The four-day start for Book Club stands at
$15.484 million, which is on the high end of expectations and places the film 19.3 percent ahead of the $12.975 million four-day launch of last year’s Going in Style.
Book Club is likely to have a lengthy box office run, thanks in part to strong word of mouth and to skewing heavily towards older moviegoers. |
Warner’s Life of the Party and Universal’s Breaking In claimed fourth and fifth place with respective daily grosses of $736,717 and $588,520.
Life of the Party was down 65.5 percent from Sunday and down a solid 42.3 percent from last Monday, while Breaking In declined 69.9 percent from Sunday and a sharp 53.3 percent
from last Monday. Respective eleven-day grosses stand at $31.652 million for Life of the Party (which is on the low end of expectations) and at $29.695 million for
Breaking In (which is on the high end of expectations). |
