| Warner’s Ready Player One took in $4.002 million on Wednesday to lead the daily box office for a seventh straight day. Ready Player One was down a very solid 25.8 percent from Tuesday.
It should be noted that daily percentage holds were stronger than usual for a Wednesday yesterday, thanks in part to the post-Easter midweek frame. Ready Player One has grossed $68.347 million in seven days. That
is towards the higher end of expectations and places the film 9.3 percent ahead of the $62.557 million seven-day haul of 2013’s G.I. Joe Retaliation. BoxOfficeReport is predicting a second weekend second place take
of $23.5 million for Ready Player One. |
| Disney’s Black Panther was up one spot from Tuesday to move into second place on Wednesday with $1.397 million. Black Panther held up very nicely yesterday, as the film was down
16.2 percent from Tuesday and down just 19.8 percent from last Wednesday. Black Panther is currently the fourth highest grossing film of all-time domestically with a 48-day gross of $655.623 million and is now just
$3.741 million away from passing 1997’s Titanic to move into third place on the all-time unadjusted domestic chart. BoxOfficeReport is predicting that Black Panther will take fourth place this weekend with
$8.0 million. |
| It was a very close three-way race for third place on Wednesday with just $38,267 separating third place and fifth place for the day. Tyler Perry’s Acrimony led the trio of films to take
third with $1.304 million. Acrimony was down one spot and a sizable 31.7 percent from Tuesday. Acrimony has grossed $22.089 million in six days, which is towards the higher end of expectations and places the
film 18.4 percent behind the $27.057 million six-day start of 2013’s Tyler Perry's Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor. BoxOficeReport is predicting a second weekend take of $7.8 million for Acrimony. |
| Roadside’s I Can Only Imagine held steady in fourth with $1.266 million. I Can Only Imagine continues to display terrific holding power, as the film declined 19.8 percent from Tuesday
and a slim 14.4 percent from last Wednesday. I Can Only Imagine has grossed a far stronger than expected $59.605 million in 20 days. That already gives the film a current total gross to opening weekend ratio of
3.49 to 1. BoxOfficeReport is predicting that I Can Only Imagine will gross $7.5 million in its fourth weekend. |
| Paramount and MGM’s Sherlock Gnomes took in $1.266 million to remain in fifth place. Sherlock Gnomes continues to display strong post-Easter midweek holding power as the film was down
17.0 percent from Tuesday and up 14.0 percent over last Wednesday. Sherlock Gnomes has grossed a softer than expected $27.223 million in thirteen days, but should continue to hold up well going forward.
BoxOfficeReport is predicting a third weekend gross of $5.2 million for Sherlock Gnomes. |
