| Warner’s Ready Player One grossed $5.393 million on Tuesday to lead the daily box office for a sixth consecutive day. The Steven Spielberg directed Ready Player One increased a slim
2.9 percent over Monday’s performance. It should be noted that daily holds in general yesterday were softer than usual for a Tuesday, due to Monday’s inflated post-Easter grosses. Ready Player One has grossed
$64.344 million in six days. That is towards the higher end of expectations and places the film 8.0 percent ahead of the $59.569 million six-day launch of 2013’s G.I. Joe Retaliation
(which fell 11.7 percent on its first Tuesday to gross $4.013 million). |
| Lionsgate’s Tyler Perry’s Acrimony held steady in second with $1.910 million. That represented a 12.1 percent increase over Monday. Acrimony passed the $20 million mark yesterday and
is running towards the higher end of expectations with a five-day start of $20.785 million. Acrimony is running 67.1 percent ahead of the $12.435 million five-day haul of Proud Mary earlier this year and
19.1 percent behind the $25.687 million five-day gross of 2013’s Tyler Perry’s Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor. |
| Disney’s Black Panther took in $1.667 million to remain in third place. Black Panther was up 1.9 percent over Monday and down a very solid 32.1 percent from last Tuesday.
Black Panther is currently the fourth highest grossing film of all-time domestically with a 47-day take of $654.226 million. The film is now just $5.138 million away from passing 1997’s Titanic to move into
third place on the all-time unadjusted domestic chart. |
| Roadside’s I Can Only Imagine was up one spot from Monday to claim fourth place on Tuesday with $1.617 million. I Can Only Imagine increased 13.8 percent over Monday and decreased just
24.3 percent from last Tuesday. Thanks in part to terrific word of mouth, I Can Only Imagine has grossed a far stronger than expected $58.309 million in 19 days. That already gives the film a current total gross to
opening weekend ratio of 3.41 to 1. |
| Paramount and MGM’s Sherlock Gnomes was down one spot from Monday to round out Tuesday’s top five with $1.525 million. Sherlock Gnomes continues to display strong post-Easter midweek
holding power as the film was down 5.3 percent from Monday and down a very slim 7.8 percent from last Tuesday. Sherlock Gnomes has grossed a softer than expected $25.957 million in twelve days, but should continue
to hold up well going forward. |
