| Warner’s Ready Player One took in $5.241 million on Monday to lead the daily box office for a fifth consecutive day. Thanks in part to the Monday after Easter traditionally being a strong day
for moviegoing, Ready Player One was down 53.0 percent from Sunday’s performance. In comparison, 2013’s G.I. Joe: Retaliation was also down 53.0 percent on the Monday after Easter to take in $4.547 million.
Ready Player One has grossed $58.952 million through five days of release. That is towards the higher end of expectations and places the film 6.1 percent ahead of the $55.556 million five-day start of
G.I. Joe: Retaliation. |
| Lionsgate’s Tyler Perry’s Acrimony placed in second with $1.704 million. That represented a 54.7 percent decline from Sunday. Acrimony continues to perform towards the higher end of
expectations with a four-day take of $18.875 million. The film is running 61.3 percent ahead of the $11.701 million four-day haul of Proud Mary earlier this year and 20.9 percent behind the $23.855 million four-day
launch of 2013’s Tyler Perry’s Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor. |
| Disney’s Black Panther claimed third place with $1.635 million. In the process, Black Panther passed the $652.271 million final domestic gross of 2015’s Jurassic World to move
into fourth place on the all-time unadjusted domestic list. With a massive 46-day total of $652.559 million, Black Panther is now just $6.805 million away from passing 1997’s Titanic to move into third place
on the all-time domestic chart. On Monday, Black Panther was down 47.2 percent from Sunday and down only 10.1 percent from last Monday. |
| Paramount and MGM’s Sherlock Gnomes followed closely behind in fourth with $1.610 million. The Monday after Easter is typically an especially strong day for family films and that was certainly
the case yesterday for Sherlock Gnomes, as the film decreased a slim 1.0 percent from Sunday and increased a healthy 56.9 percent over last Monday. Sherlock Gnomes has grossed a softer than expected
$24.432 million in eleven days, but is also displaying strong holding power thus far. |
| Roadside’s I Can Only Imagine rounded out Monday’s top five with $1.421 million. I Can Only Imagine continues to display very strong holding power, as the film was down 52.1 percent
from Sunday and down just 0.1 percent from last Monday. I Can Only Imagine has grossed a far stronger than expected $56.692 million in 18 days, which already gives the film a current total gross to opening weekend
ratio of 3.31 to 1. |
