| Sony’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle claimed first place on Tuesday with $2.417 M. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle has now led the daily box office for 15 of the past 16 days.
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle declined a hefty 65.8 percent from Monday’s inflated Martin Luther King Jr. Day performance and only 31.8 percent from last Tuesday. The 28-day take for Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle
stands at an exceptional $293.730 M. That gives Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle a current total gross to opening weekend ratio of 8.12 to 1 and leaves the film just $6.27 M away from reaching the $300 M domestic milestone. |
| Fox and DreamWorks’ The Post placed in a close second with $2.168 M. For the day, The Post trailed Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle by just $249 K. The Post was down 41.3 percent from
Monday’s MLK Day performance. The Post has grossed a promising $29.713 M after five days of wide release and an additional three weeks of platform release. The current total for The Post is 59.9 percent ahead of the
$18.583 M five-day start of 2015’s Bridge of Spies (though The Post is aided in the comparison by its platform run). |
| Lionsgate’s The Commuter took third place with $1.419 M. The Commuter was down just 32.3 percent from Monday, in part from the film not receiving the type of boost on MLK Day that many other films
in the marketplace saw. The Commuter is running a bit ahead of expectations with a five-day take of $17.215 M. That places the film 32.1 percent ahead of the $13.033 M five-day launch of 2015’s Run All Night. |
| Fox’s The Greatest Showman followed very closely behind in fourth with $1.404 M. In the process, The Greatest Showman passed the $100 M domestic mark yesterday. Thanks in part to tremendous
holding power (the film has a current total gross to opening weekend ratio of 11.39 to 1), The Greatest Showman continues to exceed expectations with $100.335 M through 28 days of release. The Greatest Showman
declined 62.2 percent from Monday and a slim 26.3 percent from last Tuesday. |
| Disney’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi rounded out Tuesday’s top five with $1.104 M. That represented a 60.2 percent decrease from Monday and a sharp 53.4 percent slide from last Tuesday. While it continues
to fall off quickly, in the bigger picture Star Wars: The Last Jedi has grossed a massive $596.006 M in 33 days. Star Wars: The Last Jedi is now just $3.994 M away from the $600 M domestic milestone. |
