Amazon MGM Studios' Project Hail Mary will continue to lead the domestic box office with ease this weekend. The critically acclaimed sci-fi adventure film is coming off of a terrific $80.51 million opening weekend performance last weekend. In addition to the film's strong critical reviews, Project Hail Mary also looks to be going over very well with audiences after receiving an A Rating on CinemaScore. Initial daily holds have also been very encouraging for Project Hail Mary and the film will receive added boosts this weekend from continuing to play on IMAX screens (where the film is performing especially well) and from moviegoers who will want to catch the film before Universal's highly anticipated The Super Mario Galaxy Movie enters the marketplace this coming Wednesday. Good second weekend comparisons for Project Hail Mary could prove to be Dune: Part Two, which declined 44.0 percent in its second weekend to gross $46.22 million back in March of 2024 and The Martian, which decreased just 31.9 percent in its second weekend to take in $37.01 million back in October of 2015. Project Hail Mary will likely hold up better than Dune: Part Two did (due in part to being a non-sequel), but not quite as well as The Martian did (due in part to opening significantly higher than The Martian did). Look for Project Hail Mary to decline just 37.9 percent this weekend to register a second weekend haul of $50.0 million. That would bring the film's domestic total to roughly the $160 million domestic mark.

Last weekend Disney's Hoppers decreased 37.9 percent to place in second with $17.80 million. That hold was stronger than it may first appear, given the negative impact Project Hail Mary had on holdovers in general last weekend. With the opening weekend of Project Hail Mary out of the way, Hoppers should stabilize significantly this weekend, especially with the mentioned launch of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie this coming Wednesday, which will give Hoppers an additional boost this weekend. Hoppers is also holding onto the vast majority of its locations from last weekend and to a high percentage of its average showtimes per location. Hoppers could decline a slim 23.0 percent from last weekend to hold steady in second place this weekend with $13.7 million. That would bring the film's domestic total to roughly the $140 million domestic mark.

This weekend's highest profile new release is Warner Bros. and New Line's They Will Kill You. The R-rated action horror comedy was directed by Kirill Sokolov and stars Zazie Beetz and Myha'la. They Will Kill You is playing in 2,778 locations this weekend and has Thursday preview shows beginning at 3PM. Similar to last weekend's Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, critical reviews for They Will Kill You have been good, but not great, on the average. The decision to open They Will Kill You so soon after Ready or Not 2 seems like a puzzling one, giving the likely audience overlap between the two films. Ready or Not 2: Here I Come opened with a modest $9.08 million last weekend and given that They Will Kill You seems to have less pre-release buzz, it is unlikely that They Will Kill You will match last weekend's opening weekend performance of Ready or Not 2. BoxOfficeReport is predicting that They Will Kill You will debut in third place this weekend with a modest $5.8 million.

Meanwhile, holdovers should occupy places fourth through sixth on this weekend's box office chart. After declining a sizable 55.5 percent last weekend to place in fifth with $8.00 million, Universal's Reminders of Him should stabilize significantly this weekend and could decrease by a very solid 35.0 percent to move up to fourth place with $5.2 million. On the heels of last weekend's exceptional respective three-day and four-day starts of $10.04 million and $14.02 million, Dhurandhar The Revenge (released in North America by Moviegoers Entertainment) could be headed for another impressive performance this weekend. Normally films from India experience especially sharp second weekend percentage declines in North America, but last year's Dhurandhar was an exception to that trend and Dhurandhar The Revenge will look to be an exception to that trend as well, as there continues to be high demand for the film. Dhurandhar The Revenge could decline 51.2 percent from last weekend to place in fifth this weekend with $4.9 million. And with the new direct competition from They Will Kill You, Disney and Searchlight's mentioned Ready or Not 2: Here I Come could decline a sizable 55.9 percent in its second weekend to take sixth place with $4.0 million.
