The 2026 box office appears set to have its first major debut of the calendar year thus far with the release of Warner Bros.'s Wuthering Heights this weekend. The Emerald Fennell directed adaptation of the classic novel of the same name stars Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi. Wuthering Heights is playing in 3,682 locations this weekend, is playing on IMAX screens and has Thursday preview shows beginning at 3PM. Wuthering Heights is expected to perform especially well on Valentine's Day Saturday. Somewhat surprisingly, critical reviews for Wuthering Heights have been fairly mixed, but they likely won't have that much of an effect on the film until after opening weekend, especially with Wuthering Heights expected to be so Valentine's Day heavy this weekend. Warner Bros. had a very successful 2025 as a whole, and Wuthering Heights looks like it will help the studio get off to a healthy start in 2026. In addition to 2025 Warner Bros. opening weekends such as the $48.01 million debut of Sinners and the $43.50 million start of Weapons, another good opening weekend comparison for Wuthering Heights could prove to be the $50.02 million three-day launch of Sony's It Ends With Us back in August of 2024. BoxOfficeReport is predicting respective three-day and four-day holiday weekend grosses of $44.0 million and $48.0 million for Wuthering Heights.

Also arriving in theatres this weekend is Sony's GOAT. The basketball themed computer animated film from Sony Pictures Animation was directed by Tyree Dillihay, while basketball legend Stephen Curry is one of the film's producers. The ensemble vocal cast for GOAT includes Caleb McLaughlin, Gabrielle Union, Aaron Pierre, Nicola Coughlan, David Harbour, Nick Kroll and Curry, among others. GOAT is playing in 3,863 locations this weekend and has Thursday preview shows beginning early at 2PM (GOAT also had early access shows this past Saturday). On the average, critical reviews for GOAT have been good. As a non-sequel and with no other new animated films opening in the marketplace for a few weeks (until Disney and Pixar's Hoppers arrives on March 6), GOAT likely won't be off to a fast start this weekend, but will have a good chance of holding up well in general. Look for GOAT to open with respective three-day and four-day second place starts of $18.5 million and $23.0 million this weekend.

This weekend also sees the release of Amazon MGM Studios' Crime 101. The crime thriller was directed by Bart Layton and stars Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Barry Keoghan and Halle Berry. Crime 101 is playing in 3,161 locations this weekend, is splitting IMAX screens with Wuthering Heights and has Thursday preview shows beginning at 4PM. On the average, critical reviews for Crime 101 have been quite strong, which could give the film a bit of a boost this weekend. A few weeks back Amazon MGM Studios' Mercy opened with $10.81 million and it's looking like Crime 101 will be able to open a bit higher than that, especially with the aid of the dual-holiday frame. BoxOfficeReport is predicting respective three-day and four-day third place starts of $13.8 million and $15.5 million for Crime 101 this weekend.

Even with three significant new wide releases entering the marketplace this weekend, holdovers in general are likely to hold up well this weekend, thanks in part to the dual-holiday frame and in part from last weekend's Sunday grosses having been deflated due to Super Bowl LX. Last weekend's top two films, Disney / 20th Century's Send Help and Angel Studios' Solo Mio will likely both hold up especially well this weekend, as both films should benefit from relatively strong Valentine's Day business on Saturday. Send Help could take in $8.8 million over the 3-day frame and $9.8 million over the 4-day frame, while Solo Mio could gross $6.6 million over the 3-day weekend and $7.4 million over the 4-day weekend. In comparison to last weekend's three-day frame, the four-day performance for Send Help would represent an 8.3 percent increase, while the four-day take for Solo Mio would represent a similar 5.7 percent increase.
