Due to time constraints from Christmas Eve & Christmas Day falling on Wednesday / Thursday this year, this weekend's written box office predictions article is shorter than usual. Apologies for any inconvenience.

Disney's Avatar: Fire and Ash and Zootopia 2 have both been holding up very nicely during the midweek this week and are both likely to have strong holds this weekend. Avatar: Fire and Ash could decline just 27.1 percent from last weekend's debut to take first place over the three-day frame with $65.0 million, while Zootopia 2 could increase by a terrific 44.8 percent to take second place with $21.5 million (last year Moana 2 increased by a similar 43.1 percent over Christmas weekend to gross $18.90 million).

Films going into wide release over Christmas weekend include Sony's Anaconda and A24's buzz-heavy Marty Supreme (which opened in platform release last weekend). Anaconda will likely have the advantage between the two films this weekend, thanks in part to opening in 3,509 locations (in comparison to 2,668 locations for Marty Supreme). Respective estimated preview grosses for the two films on Christmas Eve Wednesday were $2.10 million for Anaconda and a similar $2.01 million for Marty Supreme (preview shows started at noon for both films). Anaconda could start out with respective three-day weekend and four-day holiday grosses of $17.5 million and $27.0 million, while Marty Supreme could be within shouting distance with respective three-day weekend and four-day holiday grosses of $15.0 million and $24.0 million.

Meanwhile, last weekend's non-Avatar wide releases could find themselves bunched fairly closely together this weekend. Over the three-day frame, look for Angel Studios' David to decline 34.1 percent to gross $14.5 million, for Lionsgate's The Housemaid to decrease 29.0 percent to take in $13.5 million and for Paramount's The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants to slow by just 19.9 percent to register $12.5 million.

Also opening in wide release on Christmas Day (in 2,587 locations) is Focus' Song Sung Blue. BoxOfficeReport is predicting respective three-day weekend and four-day holiday grosses of $8.0 million and $12.2 million for the film.
