This weekend sees the arrival of one of the year's most anticipated films with Universal's release of Wicked: For Good. The continuation of last year's Wicked sees the return of director Jon M. Chu and stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande. Wicked: For Good is playing in 4,115 locations this weekend, is playing on IMAX screens and has Thursday preview shows beginning at 2PM (Wicked: For Good also had early access screenings on both Monday and Wednesday). Last year, Wicked debuted with $112.51 million and displayed terrific holding power throughout the holiday season to go on to gross $473.23 million during its initial run. As a sequel, there will be more initial opening weekend demand for Wicked: For Good, and there will also be more room for Wicked: For Good to meet that demand this time around thanks in part to Wicked: For Good not having to deal with a fellow new opener the size of Gladiator II (which Wicked had to deal with last year). Critical reviews for Wicked: For Good haven't been as strong as those for Wicked, but that shouldn't matter in this instance, at least not on opening weekend. Thus far the two largest openers of 2025 have been A Minecraft Movie (with $162.75 million) and Lilo & Stitch (with $146.02 million). The debut for Wicked: For Good could end up in between the opening weekends of those two films, with Wicked: For Good also having potential to display stronger holding power after opening weekend. BoxOfficeReport is predicting that Wicked: For Good will open with a massive $155.0 million this weekend.

After taking first place last weekend with a respectable debut of $21.01 million, Lionsgate's Now You See Me: Now You Don't will likely finish in a very distant second place this weekend. Back in June of 2016, in its second weekend Now You See Me 2 had to deal with the combination of Finding Dory and Central Intelligence entering the marketplace and in the process declined a sizable 58.1 percent to gross $9.37 million. Now You See Me: Now You Don't could be headed for a similar second weekend hold this time around, in the face of the arrival of Wicked: For Good. Look for Now You See Me: Now You Don't to decline a sizable 56.2 percent to gross $9.2 million this weekend, before likely stabilizing significantly next weekend over the Thanksgiving holiday frame.

Last weekend also saw Paramount's The Running Man debut in second with an underwhelming $16.50 million and Disney / 20th Century's Predator: Badlands decline a surprising 68.2 percent to follow in third place with $12.72 million. With The Running Man losing its IMAX screens this weekend, the film could be headed for a second weekend decline fairly similar to that of Predator: Badlands last weekend. Meanwhile, Predator: Badlands should stabilize significantly from last weekend, but at the same time is still likely in store for a sizable decline this weekend. Predator: Badlands could decline 48.9 percent this weekend to place in third with $6.5 million, while The Running Man could fall a sharp 64.8 percent to land in fourth place with $5.8 million.

Also opening in wide release this weekend are Sony's Sisu: Road to Revenge and Disney / Searchlight's Rental Family. Sisu: Road to Revenge, a sequel to 2022's Sisu, is directed by Jalmari Helander and stars Jorma Tommila and Stephen Lang. Rental Family is a comedy-drama directed by Hikari, which stars Brendan Fraser and also features Takehiro Hira, Mari Yamamoto and Shannon Mahina Gorman. Sisu: Road to Revenge is playing in 2,222 locations this weekend and has Thursday preview shows beginning at 4PM. Rental Family is playing in 1,925 locations and has Thursday preview shows beginning at 2PM. Not much is expected from either film at the box office this weekend, but Sisu: Road to Revenge could have the slight edge between the two films, thanks in part to the larger location count and likely being the more front-loaded of the two films. BoxOfficeReport is predicting respective opening weekend grosses of $4.4 million for Sisu: Road to Revenge and $3.8 million for Rental Family.
