It will look to be a fairly close three-way race for first place this weekend between last weekend's top film, Disney and 20th Century's Predator: Badlands, and two new releases; Lionsgate's Now You See Me: Now You Don't and Paramount's The Running Man.

Lionsgate's Now You See Me: Now You Don't represents the third film in the Now You See Me series. The Ruben Fleischer directed sequel features an ensemble cast which includes Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Isla Fisher, Justice Smith and Morgan Freeman. Now You See Me: Now You Don't will be playing in 3,403 locations this weekend and has Thursday preview shows beginning early at 2PM. Back in June of 2016, Now You See Me 2 debuted with $22.38 million and went on to finish its domestic run with a so-so $65.08 million. It feels like Now You See Me: Now You Don't could open in the same neighborhood as Now You See Me 2, especially with the aid of nine years of ticket price inflation. In this weekend's battle for first place, a major advantage for Now You See Me: Now You Don't over both Predator: Badlands and The Running Man is that Now You See Me: Now You Don't should have stronger appeal with female moviegoers. BoxOfficeReport is predicting that Now You See Me: Now You Don't will take first place this weekend with a debut of $22.0 million.

Disney and 20th Century's Predator: Badlands is coming off of a break-out first place performance of $40.02 million last weekend. That was $10 million higher than the high end of consensus expectations heading into last weekend. In addition, Predator: Badlands has displayed strong initial daily holding power thus far. The film's healthy A- rating on CinemaScore also points towards Predator: Badlands going over very well with moviegoers. Clearly, there is momentum for Predator: Badlands to have a stronger than usual second weekend hold this weekend, but at the same time, there will also be limits placed on the strength of that hold, due to the film losing its IMAX screens to The Running Man, as well as Predator: Badlands taking a fairly sizable hit to its non-IMAX showtimes in comparison to last weekend. With everything in mind, Predator: Badlands could decline a respectable 53.8 percent this weekend to score a second weekend haul of $18.5 million.

Paramount's The Running Man represents a new adaptation of the 1982 Stephen King novel of the same name, arriving 38 years after the 1987 adaptation (which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger). This version of The Running Man was directed by Edgar Wright, stars Glen Powell and also features William H. Macy Lee Pace, Michael Cera, Emilia Jones, Colman Domingo and Josh Brolin. The Running Man is playing in 3,534 locations this weekend and has Thursday preview shows beginning at 7PM. As mentioned, The Running Man will have the advantage of playing on IMAX screens this weekend. There had been hope that The Running Man (which is fairly pricey) would have break-out potential, but there just doesn't seem to be break-out levels of demand for the film and the ongoing break-out performance of Predator: Badlands isn't helping matters for The Running Man either. Look for The Running Man to debut with $18.3 million this weekend.

Also receiving a wide release this weekend is NEON's Keeper. The R-rated horror film is the latest film from director Osgood Perkins, and stars Tatiana Maslany and Rossif Sutherland. Keeper is opening in 1,950 locations this weekend and has Thursday preview shows beginning at 7PM. The advertising campaign for Keeper had a mysterious feel to it, but unfortunately it appears that decision hasn't led to much interest in the film. Keeper isn't expected to perform anywhere near as strong as Perkins' previous two horror films; last year's Longlegs and this year's The Monkey. Instead, Keeper could debut with an underwhelming $3.3 million this weekend. That would likely place the film in fifth for the frame, behind Paramount's Regretting You, which could decline a very solid 30.9 percent to gross $4.6 million.
