Four new wide releases enter the theatrical marketplace this weekend, with the most promising of the four (at least on opening weekend), looking to be Sony and Crunchyroll's Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Arc. The R-rated anime film directed by Tatsuya Yoshihara is a follow-up to the Chainsaw Man anime series. Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Arc is playing in 3,003 locations this weekend, will be playing on some IMAX screens (IMAX screens are being split this weekend between Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Arc and Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere) and has Thursday preview shows beginning at 4PM. Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Arc has had a solid international performance thus far, with the film having grossed $68.3 million as of this past Sunday from select international markets (including Japan). Obviously, Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Arc isn't going to reach the recent box office heights of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle, but the break-out performance of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle highlights the growing popularity of anime in North America. While the film is highly likely to be quite front-loaded towards opening weekend; Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Arc could debut in first place this weekend with $17.0 million.

Universal and Blumhouse's Black Phone 2 is coming off of a stronger than expected first place debut of $27.33 million last weekend. The R-rated horror sequel also held up relatively well last weekend as the weekend went on. Black Phone 2 looks to be going over fairly well with moviegoers (the film received a B rating on CinemaScore) and should be helped out a bit this weekend by both the pre-Halloween weekend frame and by there likely not being a ton of audience overlap between Black Phone 2 and this weekend's three higher-profile new wide releases. Black Phone 2 could also prove to be relatively weekend heavy in general throughout its run. Back in July of 2022, The Black Phone declined 48.2 percent in its second weekend to gross $12.25 million. As a sequel, Black Phone 2 is unlikely to hold up quite that well, but the film may also not have that much larger of a second weekend percentage decline than The Black Phone experienced. Black Phone 2 could decline a sizable, but respectable 52.8 percent this weekend to gross $12.9 million. That would bring the film's ten-day domestic total within shouting distance of the $50 million domestic mark.

Meanwhile, it could prove to be a close race for third place this weekend between Disney and 20th Century's Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere and Paramount's Regretting You. Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere is a music biography about Bruce Springsteen, which was directed by Scott Cooper and stars Jeremy Allen White as Springsteen. Regretting You is an adaptation of the Colleen Hoover romance novel of the same name. The film was directed by Josh Boone and stars Allison Williams, Mckenna Grace, Dave Franco and Mason Thames. Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere is playing in 3,460 locations this weekend, is playing on IMAX screens and has Thursday preview shows beginning early at 2PM. Regretting You is playing in a similar 3,393 locations this weekend and has traditional Thursday preview shows beginning at 6PM (fan event preview screenings start an hour earlier at 5PM). Critical reviews for Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere have been surprisingly mixed, while critical reviews for Regretting You thus far have been mostly negative. While neither film is expected to light the box office on fire this weekend, both films should be helped out by having built-in fanbases and there likely won't be all that much overlap between the audiences for the two films this weekend (Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere while likely perform stronger in larger cities and Regretting You will likely perform stronger in more rural areas and with female moviegoers). BoxOfficeReport is predicting respective opening weekend grosses of $11.2 million for Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere and $11.1 million for Regretting You.

Further down on this weekend's box office chart, Disney's Tron: Ares is likely to continue to experience significant front-loading this weekend. Last weekend Tron: Ares declined a sharp 66.6 percent to land in second place with $11.11 million. Unfortunately, Tron: Ares is unlikely to stabilize much this weekend, thanks in part to the film losing its IMAX screens. Look for Tron: Ares to decrease a sharp 60.4 percent this weekend to place in fifth with $4.4 million.

Also receiving a wide release this weekend is NEON's Shelby Oaks. The R-rated horror film marks the theatrical debut of YouTube film critic Chris Stuckmann as a director, and stars Camille Sullivan. Shelby Oaks is playing in 1,830 locations this weekend and has Thursday preview shows beginning at 7PM. On the average, critical reviews for Shelby Oaks have been mixed, but more so positive than negative. A good opening weekend comparison for Shelby Oaks may prove to be NEON's Presence, which opened with $3.33 million this past January (from 1,750 locations). BoxOfficeReport is predicting that Shelby Oaks will debut with $2.9 million this weekend. That would place the film in the same neighborhood as Lionsgate's Good Fortune this weekend, which could decline a respectable 51.3 percent to gross $3.0 million.
