As we move into August, Disney's The Fantastic Four: First Steps will look to remain at the top of the box office this weekend. Last weekend, The Fantastic Four: First Steps was off to a very strong start with $117.64 million. However, although The Fantastic Four: First Steps has gone over very well with critics and looks to be going over well with audiences after receiving a healthy A- rating on CinemaScore, the film has nonetheless displayed significant initial front-loading thus far. That suggests that The Fantastic Four: First Steps is in store for a sharp second weekend percentage decline this weekend, which has become fairly common for films within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in more recent years. One of the better second weekend comparisons for The Fantastic Four: First Steps may prove to be 2022's Thor: Love and Thunder, which declined 67.7 percent in its second weekend to gross $46.63 million. As a non-sequel that also has a better overall reception, The Fantastic Four: First Steps should have at least a slightly better second weekend hold than Thor: Love and Thunder had. The Fantastic Four: First Steps will also get a bit of a boost this weekend from remaining on IMAX screens. The Fantastic Four: First Steps could take in $41.5 million this weekend, which would represent a 64.7 percent decline from last weekend and would move the film just past the $200 million domestic mark.

This weekend sees the release of both Universal and DreamWorks Animation's The Bad Guys 2 and Paramount's The Naked Gun. While both films are unlikely to light the box office on fire this weekend, both films should get off to solid starts this weekend. Both films will also have the potential of holding up well throughout August, thanks in part to the strong critical reviews for each film.

Universal and DreamWorks Animation's The Bad Guys 2 is the follow up to 2022's The Bad Guys. The Bad Guys 2 was directed by Pierre Perifel and features an ensemble vocal cast which includes Sam Rockwell, Marc Maron, Awkwafina, Craig Robinson, Anthony Ramos and Zazie Beetz. The Bad Guys 2 is opening in 3,852 locations this weekend and has Thursday preview shows beginning early at 2PM. Back in April of 2022, The Bad Guys opened with $23.95 million, before going on to finish with $97.46 million domestically. The Bad Guys 2 may not open quite as high as its predecessor did, but could still open in the same neighborhood. BoxOfficeReport is predicting that The Bad Guys 2 will debut in second place this weekend with $20.5 million.

Paramount's The Naked Gun represents the first film in The Naked Gun series since Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult way back in 1994. The Naked Gun was directed by Akiva Schaffer and stars Liam Neeson, Pamela Anderson and Paul Walter Hauser. The film is playing in 3,344 locations this weekend and has Thursday preview shows beginning at 7PM. Also of note is that The Naked Gun received a PG-13 rating, which could help give the film some appeal with teens and young adults, but perhaps more so after opening weekend. Between the legacy of The Naked Gun series, the presence of Neeson and the film's strong critical reviews, The Naked Gun could be in store for a very solid start this weekend. BoxOfficeReport is predicting a third place debut of $18.5 million for The Naked Gun this weekend.

Warner Bros.'s Superman and Universal's Jurassic World Rebirth will both have a continued presence at the box office this weekend. Last weekend Superman declined 57.5 percent to place in second with $24.85 million, while Jurassic World Rebirth decreased by 44.3 percent to land in third with $13.20 million. With the opening weekend performance of The Fantastic Four: First Steps now out of the way, both Superman and Jurassic World Rebirth should hold up significantly better this weekend than last weekend, especially Superman (which was also dealing with the loss of IMAX screens last weekend). Superman could decline a solid 37.6 percent to place in fourth with $15.5 million, while Jurassic World Rebirth could decrease by just 31.8 percent to follow in fifth place with $9.0 million.

On Wednesday, NEON's Together started out with an estimated $2.65 million, though that figure also includes an estimated $1.3 million from Tuesday previews and prior early access screenings. Together is an R-rated supernatural horror film directed by Michael Shanks and stars Alison Brie, Dave Franco and Damon Herriman. Like the weekend's other two wide releases, Together has also gone over very well with critics. Regardless of the film's reception, Together will likely be fairly front-loaded towards its midweek performance, especially since the film also had Tuesday preview shows and early access screenings. Together could start out with $8.6 million in its first five days, with $4.8 million of that total coming from the traditional three-day weekend.
