The momentum at the box office should continue this weekend with the release of Warner Bros.'s Final Destination Bloodlines. The highly anticipated R-rated horror sequel represents the sixth installment of the Final Destination franchise and marks the return of the franchise after a 14-year gap since the release of Final Destination 5 back in August of 2011. Final Destination Bloodlines was directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein, stars Kaitlyn Santa Juana and also features the late Tony Todd in a supporting role. Final Destination Bloodlines is opening in 3,523 locations this weekend, is playing on IMAX screens and has Thursday preview shows beginning at 3PM. There is a very high level of anticipation for Final Destination Bloodlines, thanks in part to the film's buzz-creating trailer, and more recently, thanks in part to the film's exceptionally strong (and stronger than anticipated) critical reviews. Factor in years of ticket price inflation and Final Destination Bloodlines will have no problem generating the highest opening weekend ever for the Final Destination franchise (a mark that currently belongs to 2009's The Final Destination with an opening weekend gross of $27.41 million). Final Destination Bloodlines could open in the same neighborhood as the recent $48.01 million start of fellow Warner Bros. horror film Sinners, though even with the great critical reception, Final Destination Bloodlines isn't expected to hold up as well as Sinners has, after opening weekend. BoxOfficeReport is predicting that Final Destination Bloodlines will open with a very impressive $48.5 million this weekend.

It could prove to be a close race for second place this weekend between Disney and Marvel's Thunderbolts*, and Warner Bros.'s Sinners. Last weekend Thunderbolts* declined a sizable 56.4 percent to take first place with $32.39 million, while Sinners decreased a very solid 33.2 percent to place in second with $22.10 million. While Thunderbolts* should experience some stabilization this weekend, that stabilization will be limited by the film losing its IMAX screens to Final Destination Bloodlines. And although Sinners will face new fairly direct competition from Final Destination Bloodlines, Sinners has displayed strong holding power during the midweek this week (the film's Wednesday gross was down just 28.0 percent from the previous Wednesday) and will also get a bit of a boost this weekend from returning to select IMAX screens in the IMAX 70MM format. With that in mind, Sinners having a similar percentage hold as last weekend's hold feels reasonable. Look for Thunderbolts* to decrease 51.5 percent from last weekend to gross $15.7 million and for Sinners to decline 32.1 percent to gross $15.0 million.

Meanwhile, Warner Bros. & Legendary's A Minecraft Movie will look to continue to have a presence at the box office this weekend. Last weekend, A Minecraft Movie experienced a larger than expected decline, as the film was down 44.2 percent to place in third with $7.66 million. But this weekend the event film will have some factors going in its favor, including holding onto a very high percentage of its average showtimes per location from last weekend and this weekend representing a chance for family audiences to catch A Minecraft Movie (or catch it again) before Disney's highly anticipated Lilo & Stitch enters the marketplace next weekend. A Minecraft Movie could have its best hold to date this weekend by declining just 25.6 percent to place in fourth with $5.7 million.

Also going wide this weekend is Lionsgate's release of Hurry Up Tomorrow. The Trey Edward Shults directed film stars Abel Tesfaye (recording artist The Weeknd) and was made in connection with The Weeknd's most recent album, which is also titled Hurry Up Tomorrow. Hurry Up Tomorrow also stars Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan. Hurry Up Tomorrow is playing in 2,020 locations this weekend and has Thursday preview shows beginning at 6PM (the film also had early access shows on Wednesday). Given how much the film is aimed directly at fans of The Weeknd, it is highly unlikely that Hurry Up Tomorrow will have much appeal outside of Tesfaye's fanbase, especially since initial critical reviews have been especially poor thus far. With two days of previews and a dedicated niche audience, Hurry Up Tomorrow could also prove to be especially front-loaded towards opening day this weekend. BoxOfficeReport is predicting that Hurry Up Tomorrow will debut with $5.0 million this weekend.
