It will be an exciting Easter holiday frame at the box office this weekend, especially for Warner Bros., as the studio will not only have the weekend's top two films in A Minecraft Movie and Sinners, but could also very well see those two films in a very close race for first place this weekend.

Warner Bros.'s Sinners represents the latest collaboration between director Ryan Coogler and star Michael B. Jordan. The supernatural horror film set in the 1930s will be playing in 3,308 locations this weekend, will be playing on IMAX screens and has Thursday preview shows beginning at 3PM (the film also had early access IMAX screenings on Wednesday). A few weeks back anticipation for Sinners felt a bit muted, but the excitement surrounding the film has really picked up since then, thanks in part to the film's tremendous critical reviews. Previous collaborations between Jordan and Coogler (as a director) have included 2013's Fruitvale Station, 2015's Creed and 2018's Black Panther, all of which have gone over extremely well with critics and audiences alike. Back in March of 2023, the Jordan led (and directed) Creed III broke out with a debut of $58.37 million. While Sinners isn't expected to open that high (due in part to opening in 699 fewer locations than Creed III did), it will have a very good chance of opening in the same neighborhood as fellow supernatural horror film Nope, which opened with $44.37 million back in July of 2022. Sinners will also have a good chance of holding up well after this weekend, especially if the film goes over similarly with audiences as it has with critics. As for this weekend, BoxOfficeReport is predicting that Sinners will debut with a strong $46.5 million.

Last weekend Warner Bros. and Legendary's A Minecraft Movie had a very respectable second weekend hold, especially for a film of its size, by declining 51.8 percent to remain in first place with $78.50 million. A Minecraft Movie has continued to show signs of further stabilization during the midweek this week (and will be surpassing the $300 million domestic mark on Thursday), though this week being Holy Week is playing a part in that stabilization as well. The critic-proof A Minecraft Movie will continue to benefit from its good word of mouth with audiences and will also benefit this weekend from no major new family films opening in ultra-wide release (Briarcliff's animated film Sneaks opens in a semi-wide 1,430 locations this weekend). A Minecraft Movie will take a slight hit this weekend from losing the remainder of its IMAX screens and showtimes and from playing in 257 fewer locations this weekend than last weekend. As mentioned, it could prove to be a very close for first place this weekend between A Minecraft Movie and Sinners. Look for A Minecraft Movie to continue to stabilize this weekend by declining a solid 41.4 percent to take in $46.0 million for the frame. That would bring A Minecraft Movie within shouting distance of the $350 million domestic mark.

Angel Studios' The King of Kings was off to a very nice second place start last weekend with $19.37 million. The faith-based computer animated film has gone over very well with audiences (the film received a perfect A+ rating on CinemaScore) and has been holding up well throughout the midweek this week. Easter weekend can prove to be a bit tricky when it comes to holds for family films, due in part to families taking part in Easter activities throughout the weekend. With that said, between the film's very strong word of mouth, the film opening in an additional 335 locations this weekend (for a total of 3,535 locations) and of course, the film being a faith-based film about Jesus, odds are strong that The King of Kings will have a strong second weekend hold this weekend. The King of Kings could decline just 33.9 percent this weekend to place in third with $12.8 million.

As for some of this weekend's other holdovers, Disney and 20th Century's The Amateur could decline a respectable 52.7 percent from last weekend's $14.80 million third place start to place in fourth this weekend with $7.0 million. A24's Warfare, which seems to be going over slightly better with audiences than The Amateur has, and also will likely take less of a direct hit from the arrival of Sinners than The Amateur will, could decrease a solid 42.2 percent from last weekend's estimated $8.30 million fourth place start to round out this weekend's top five with $4.8 million. And although Universal's Drop looks to be going over fairly well with audiences, as a thriller the film is likely to take an especially large hit from Sinners this weekend. Drop could drop a sharp 58.1 percent from last weekend's $7.40 million fifth place start to land in sixth place with $3.1 million this weekend.

Among this weekend's other new releases, is Focus' 20th Anniversary re-issue of 2005's Pride & Prejudice. Back in 2005, Pride & Prejudice had a respectable run at the domestic box office with an unadjusted total domestic gross of $38.6 million (the film was a stronger performer internationally). Pride & Prejudice will be playing in a semi-wide 1,393 locations this weekend and there appears to be some interest in the re-issue, though there is also the potential for significant front-loading. BoxOfficeReport is predicting that the re-issue of Pride & Prejudice will gross $3.0 million this weekend.
