| With no new wide releases entering the marketplace this weekend, Paramount's Mean Girls and Amazon MGM Studios' The Beekeeper should continue to occupy the top two spots at the domestic box office. Last
weekend Mean Girls declined a sharp 59.3 percent to gross $11.66 million in its second frame, while The Beekeeper decreased a respectable 48.1 percent to gross $8.60 million in its second weekend. With their respective second weekend
declines behind them, Mean Girls and The Beekeeper should both hold up significantly better this weekend than they did last weekend. The Beekeeper has continued to build up some relative momentum during the midweek
this week, as the film's Wednesday performance was down 30.6 percent from the previous Wednesday, in comparison to the 41.8 percent Mean Girls was down from the previous Wednesday. The Beekeeper also looks like it will be taking less
of an average showtimes per location hit this weekend than Mean Girls will, though at the same time it also appears that The Beekeeper will be losing the remainder of its IMAX showtimes this weekend. Expect a closer race for first place
between the two films this weekend than last weekend, with Mean Girls likely having the slim edge. BoxOfficeReport is predicting that Mean Girls will decline 40.0 percent this weekend for a weekend take of $7.0 million and
that The Beekeeper will decrease by just 22.1 percent to gross $6.7 million for the frame. |
| Holdovers even further into their runs than Mean Girls and The Beekeeper should have even better percentage holds this weekend. Last weekend, Warner Bros.'s Wonka declined 20.7 percent to take third
with $6.71 million, Universal and Illumination's Migration decreased a slim 12.4 percent to follow in fourth with $5.46 million and Sony's Anyone But You was down 24.2 percent to round out the weekend's top five with $5.40 million. This
weekend, Wonka could decline 15.1 percent to take third with $5.7 million, while Migration could decrease a very similar 15.8 percent to place in fourth with $4.6 million and Anyone But You could decline 16.7 percent to follow
closely behind in fifth place with $4.5 million. |
| Although there are no new wide releases this weekend, Amazon MGM Studios' American Fiction and Disney / Searchlight's Poor Things will both receive major expansions this weekend on the heels of their respective
Academy Award nominations for Best Picture earlier this week. American Fiction is going from 850 locations last weekend (having grossed $1.76 million for the frame) to 1,702 locations this weekend. Poor Things is going from 1,410 locations last
weekend (having grossed $2.13 million for the frame) to 2,300 locations this weekend. With a larger expansion percentage wise and the higher per-location average last weekend, American Fiction could inch ahead of Poor Things in this weekend's
rankings, though it will likely be very close between the two films. BoxOfficeReport is predicting respective grosses of $2.8 million for American Fiction and $2.7 million for Poor Things this weekend. |
| Toho International's Godzilla Minus One is going back into wide release this weekend in an estimated 1,800+ locations, and as part of the move back to wide release, there will also be a new black & white
version of the film titled Godzilla Minus One Minus Color. Godzilla Minus One may prove to be a bit of a wild card at the box office this weekend, but with the location count boost and the new version of the film, Godzilla Minus One could
gross $2.3 million this weekend to move back into the top 10. |
