This weekend, Disney and 20th Century's Avatar: The Way of Water will look to make it seven weekends in a row at the top of the domestic box office. Last weekend, Avatar: The Way of Water declined a solid 38.7 percent to gross $20.13 million, which represented the fourth largest sixth weekend gross of all-time. Avatar: The Way of Water has been holding up very well during the midweek this week (Wednesday's performance was down only 23.0 percent from the previous Wednesday), with the film's recent Academy Award nomination for Best Picture likely giving the film a slight boost at the moment. BoxOfficeReport is predicting that Avatar: The Way of Water will decline 22.0 percent this weekend for a $15.7 million take. That would represent the third largest seventh weekend gross of all-time (behind only Avatar and Titanic, and just ahead of Top Gun: Maverick).

Universal and DreamWorks Animation's Puss in Boots: The Last Wish moved back into second place last weekend with $11.81 million, which represented a slim 18.4 percent decline. The well-received computer animated sequel continues to show no signs of slowing down anytime soon and should be in store for another excellent hold this weekend. A very slim 11.1 percent decline would transfer in $10.5 million for Puss in Boots: The Last Wish this weekend and keep the film in second place for the frame.

Sony's A Man Called Otto is coming off of a fifth place take of $8.80 million, which saw the film decline just 31.4 percent in its second weekend of wide release (and fourth weekend of overall release). The crowd-pleasing A Man Called Otto could experience an even stronger percentage hold this weekend, which would likely move the film up to third place for the frame. Look for A Man Called Otto to decrease 26.2 percent for a weekend take of $6.5 million.

Universal's M3GAN and Sony's Missing were fairly close to one another last weekend with respective third place and fourth place grosses of $9.70 million and $9.15 million. The pair of PG-13 rated genre films should remain fairly close to one another this weekend, with M3GAN likely to have the slightly better percentage hold of the two. M3GAN could decline a solid 38.1 percent to place in fourth with $6.0 million, while Missing could decrease a very respectable 42.1 percent to take fifth with $5.3 million.

The weekend's top new release looks to be Yash Raj Films' Pathaan. On Wednesday, Pathaan outpaced Avatar: The Way of Water for first place at the daily box office, with an estimated opening day performance of $1.5 million (while playing in the neighborhood of just 700 locations). Pathaan is a Hindi-language action-thriller from India, which was directed by Siddharth Anand and stars Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and John Abraham. With Wednesday's performance in mind, Pathaan could be headed for a five-day start in the area of $7.2 million, with $4.6 million of that total coming over the three-day weekend.

Three other new releases with targeted audiences could find themselves bunched together towards the bottom of this weekend's top ten chart. NEON's Infinity Pool is an R-rated sci-fi horror film directed by Brandon Cronenberg and stars Alexander Skarsgård, Mia Goth, and Cleopatra Coleman. Left Behind: Rise of the Antichrist; a PG-13 rated faith-based thriller directed by and starring Kevin Sorbo, is being released by Fathom Events on Thursday. And Hidden Empire Film Group's Fear is an R-rated horror film directed by Deon Taylor, featuring Joseph Sikora, Andrew Bachelor, Annie Ilonzeh and Tip "T.I." Harris. Infinity Pool could debut with $2.7 million, Left Behind: Rise of the Antichrist could gross $2.2 million over the three-day weekend (with a four-day start of $3.0 million), and Fear could start out with $1.8 million.
