The summer moviegoing season rolls on this weekend with the release of Universal's Jurassic World Dominion. The highly anticipated sixth installment of the Jurassic Park franchise was directed by Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow, stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard and DeWanda Wise and sees the return of Jurassic Park stars Laura Dern, Sam Neill and Jeff Goldblum. Universal is releasing Jurassic World Dominion in an ultra-wide 4,676 locations and the film will also be playing on IMAX screens. Jurassic World Dominion will have Thursday preview shows beginning at 4PM. Jurassic World Dominion is the follow-up to 2018's Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, which debuted with $148.02 million, before going on to finish is domestic run with $417.72 million. This past weekend Jurassic World Dominion started out its international run with $55.7 million from 15 select international markets, including a very strong debut of $18.1 million in Mexico.

As the sixth installment of the Jurassic Park franchise, it wouldn't be surprising for Jurassic World Dominion to experience at least a bit of a decline from the performance of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. At the same time, the return of original Jurassic Park stars Dern, Neill and Goldblum to the franchise should no doubt help soften (and possibly even prevent) a potential drop-off from Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. While Jurassic Park Dominion will be receiving a high amount of average showtimes per location this weekend, the break-out performance of Top Gun: Maverick will prevent the average showtimes count for Jurassic Park Dominion from being even higher this weekend. Critical reviews for Jurassic Park Dominion have been mostly negative, but the film is likely to be largely critic-proof, at least out of the gate. BoxOfficeReport is predicting that Jurassic World Dominion will debut with $143.0 million this weekend. That would represent the third largest opening weekend performance since the re-opening of domestic theatres (behind only last year's Spider-Man: No Way Home and this year's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) and would give Jurassic World Dominion a per-location average of $30,582 this weekend.

Paramount's Top Gun: Maverick is coming off of an exceptional second weekend hold that saw the critically acclaimed Joseph Kosinski directed sequel starring Tom Cruise decline just 29 percent to gross $90.04 million. That represented the largest second weekend gross since the re-opening of domestic theatres and the eighth largest second weekend gross of all-time. Top Gun: Maverick has continued to hold up extremely well during the midweek this week, as the film's $12.40 million Wednesday performance was down a slim 16 percent from the previous Wednesday. If it weren't for the added presence of Jurassic World Dominion in the marketplace this weekend, Top Gun: Maverick would no doubt be in store for another amazing hold, but with the new competition from Jurassic World Dominion; which will also lead to Top Gun: Maverick losing its IMAX screens this weekend, it will be difficult for Top Gun: Maverick to match last weekend's percentage hold. With that said, in the bigger picture Top Gun: Maverick should still be in store for another strong hold this weekend. Look for Top Gun: Maverick to decline 34.5 percent this weekend to take second place with $59.0 million. That would represent the sixth largest third weekend gross of all-time and would move Top Gun: Maverick just past the $400 million domestic mark (as well as past Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in this year's domestic rankings).

With the new competition from Jurassic World Dominion, Disney's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is likely to experience a sizable decline this weekend. After declining 43 percent to gross $9.17 million last weekend, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness could decrease 50 percent to place in third this weekend with $4.6 million. That would inch Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness closer to the $400 million domestic mark.

As for some of this weekend's other holdovers, Universal and DreamWorks Animation's The Bad Guys could decrease just 25 percent to take fourth place with $2.5 million, while Disney and 20th Century's The Bob's Burgers Movie could decrease 53 percent to follow in fifth with $2.2 million.
