Paramount's The Lost City appears set to replace The Batman at the top of the domestic box office this weekend. The Lost City, an adventure comedy directed by Aaron Nee and Adam Nee, stars Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum and Daniel Radcliffe. The film is opening in a wide 4,253 locations this weekend and will also have Thursday preview shows beginning at 4PM (The Lost City also had select preview shows this past Saturday, Tuesday and Wednesday). On the average, critical reviews for The Lost City have been good, but not great. The teaming up of Bullock and Tatum is obviously the big draw for the film. Bullock has long been a strong performer at the box office and Tatum proved to recently still be a box office draw after the stronger than expected success of Dog earlier this year. The Lost City may also prove to help bring adult female moviegoers back to theatres in larger than usual numbers since re-opening. Opening weekend box office comparisons for The Lost City include the $28.37 million start of last year's Free Guy and the $35.02 million launch of last year's Jungle Cruise. The Lost City could open somewhere in between those two films, though likely a bit closer to Free Guy than to Jungle Cruise. BoxOfficeReport is predicting that The Lost City will debut in first place this weekend with $29.5 million (for a very solid per-location average of $6,936).

After leading the box office each of the past three weekends, Warner's The Batman should claim second place this weekend. Last weekend The Batman was down a respectable 44.8 percent to take in $36.72 million (though the film did decline a bit more last weekend than had been widely expected). That represented the second largest third weekend gross since re-opening (behind only Spider-Man: No Way Home) and moved the film just past the $300 million domestic mark. While The Lost City isn't quite direct competition for The Batman, it is indirect competition which will contribute to The Batman continuing to lose a significant amount of showtimes (and some locations) this weekend. With that in mind, The Batman could experience a similar percentage decline to last weekend, as a 45.5 percent decrease would transfer into a fourth weekend gross of $20.0 million for the film.

This weekend also sees Sarigama Cinemas release RRR - Rise Roar Revolt in semi-wide release (in an estimated 1,150+ locations). The period drama from India was directed by S. S. Rajamouli, director of the popular Baahubali: The Beginning (2015) and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017). As Rajamouli's follow-up to Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, which broke out domestically with a debut of $10.43 million, there has been a relatively high level of buzz surrounding RRR for some time (RRR had previously been scheduled to open in October 2021 and then in January 2022). That anticipation, with the aid of Thursday essentially serving as a full day of shows at some locations, has already led to a reported $2.8 million in sales for Thursday as of 4PM Pacific (according to the film's distributor). RRR is receiving an additional boost this weekend from tickets being sold at a premium price. At the same time, RRR is likely to be extremely front-loaded towards Thursday's performance and on top of the built-in front-loading; the film's 182-minute run-time will limit the amount of average showings at many locations over the weekend itself. With the strength of the film's pre-sales in mind, BoxOfficeReport is predicting that RRR - Rise Roar Revolt will open in third place this weekend with $6.9 million (including Thursday).

Last weekend saw Sony's Uncharted decline a slim 15 percent to claim third with $7.83 million (after falling just 17 percent the previous weekend). With The Lost City entering the marketplace this weekend, Uncharted likely won't hold up quite as well this weekend as it has the previous two weekends, but in the bigger picture Uncharted should still hold up well once again this weekend, especially with the film continuing to hold onto most of its locations and showtimes. Look for Uncharted to decline 23 percent this weekend to claim fourth place with $6.0 million.

On the heels of last weekend's $18.00 million break-out second place start, Crunchyroll and Funimation's Jujutsu Kaisen 0 should round out this weekend's top five. While Jujutsu Kaisen 0 has gone over very well with critics and audiences alike, anime films typically have very sharp second weekend declines domestically, regardless of their receptions. Even with a 73 percent decline from last weekend, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 would still remain a factor at the box office this weekend with $4.9 million.

As for some of this weekend's other holdovers, with new competition from The Lost City, United Artists Releasing and MGM's Dog could slow 37 percent to claim sixth with $2.5 million, A24's X could decrease a respectable 50 percent in its second weekend to place in seventh with $2.2 million and Sony's Spider-Man: No Way Home could decline 33 percent to follow in eighth with $2.1 million and in the process become only the third film ever to reach the $800 million unadjusted domestic milestone. With the aid of a Sing-Along expansion, Universal's Sing 2 could increase 10 percent over last weekend to take ninth with $1.6 million.

Meanwhile, Bleecker Street is releasing Infinite Storm with little fanfare in 1,525 locations this weekend. The Malgorzata Szumowska directed film based on a true story, stars Naomi Watts and Billy Howle. Thus far, critical reviews for the film on the average have been respectable. Infinite Storm will likely have a modest per-location average this weekend, but at the same time the film may be playing wide enough to clear the $1 million mark for the frame (similar to The Outfit last weekend). BoxOfficeReport is predicting that Infinite Storm will debut in tenth place with $1.1 million.
