The domestic box office will look to pick back up this weekend thanks in large part to the release of Paramount's Jackass Forever. The Jeff Tremaine directed reality comedy starring Johnny Knoxville and Steve-O represents the fourth theatrical Jackass film (and fifth when counting 2013's Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa spin-off). Jackass Forever is being released exclusively in theatres in 3,604 locations this weekend, is getting a healthy amount of average showtimes per-location and will have Thursday preview shows beginning at 7PM. Pre-release buzz for Jackass Forever had been feeling somewhat muted, but has really picked up over the past week or two. The film's strong critical reviews should also allow that growing buzz to continue to pick up going forward.

The Jackass franchise has a history of exceeding expectations, but at the same time break-out potential for Jackass Forever could be limited by the nine years that have passed since Bad Grandpa and the twelve years that have passed since 2010's Jackass 3D. Jackass Forever finds itself in a very different theatrical environment than both Jackass 3D and Bad Grandpa opened in (which opened with $50.35 million and $32.06 million respectively); that should limit the theatrical appeal of Jackass Forever with more casual fans of the series, but the size of the series' more dedicated fanbase should still be large enough for Jackass Forever to get off to a strong start this weekend. Paramount is also coming off the recent success of reviving the long-dormant Scream franchise with the release of Scream (2022). BoxOfficeReport is predicting that Jackass Forever will debut comfortably in first place this weekend with $23.0 million (for a per-location average of $6,382).

Also opening in wide release this weekend is Lionsgate's Moonfall. The expensive Roland Emmerich directed sci-fi adventure film stars Halle Berry and Patrick Wilson. Moonfall is opening exclusively in theatres this weekend in 3,446 locations and will have Thursday preview shows beginning at 6PM. Moonfall will also be playing on IMAX screens this weekend, though part of that box office advantage will be offset by the film not playing in Canada this weekend. Pre-release buzz for Moonfall appeared to be somewhat stronger a few weeks back, but as the buzz for Jackass Forever has increased closer to release, in turn the buzz for Moonfall feels to have fallen off as it approaches release. Mixed critical reviews (that have been more negative than positive on the average) won't help matters either for Moonfall this weekend. Due in part to the overall lack of product in the current marketplace, Moonfall is getting a healthy amount of average showtimes per-location, though not quite to the same degree as Jackass Forever this weekend. Look for Moonfall to debut in second place with $10.0 million (for a per-location average of $2,902), before potentially falling off quickly after this weekend.

After having led the box office the past two weekends (and six of the past seven weekends), Sony's Spider-Man: No Way Home should ease somewhat this weekend. Last weekend Spider-Man: No Way Home declined a slim 21 percent to take in $11.00 million. Spider-Man: No Way Home will get a bit of a boost this weekend from theatres re-opening in the Canadian province of Ontario, but at the same time the film is also losing its IMAX screens to Moonfall this weekend and won't be having as strong of a showtimes per-location hold as it did the past few weekends. With everything in mind, Spider-Man: No Way Home should still have a good hold this weekend and could decline 31 percent to claim third with $7.6 million, as the film continues to approach the $760.51 million lifetime domestic gross of 2009's Avatar.

Last weekend saw Paramount's Scream stabilize nicely, as the horror sequel declined a solid 41 percent to hold steady in second place with $7.23 million. Scream could have another solid hold this weekend, especially since this week (beginning this past Monday) represents the first opportunity for moviegoers in the Canadian province of Ontario to catch the film. Scream could decline 39 percent this weekend to land in fourth place with $4.4 million.

As for some of this weekend's other holdovers, Universal's Sing 2 should continue to hold up very well by declining a slim 21 percent to claim fifth with $3.7 million, Disney and 20th Century's The King's Man could slow a bit by decreasing a still solid 31 percent to take sixth with $1.15 million and Universal's Redeeming Love could experience a respectable 43 percent decline to place in seventh with $1.00 million.
