After last weekend saw Paramount's new release Scream end the four-week reign of Sony's Spider-Man: No Way Home at the top of the domestic box office, it looks like it will be a close race between the two films for first place this weekend. With Spider-Man: No Way Home trailing Scream by just $0.223 million on Wednesday ($1.555 million to $1.332 million), the likely more weekend-heavy Spider-Man: No Way Home could have the slight edge between the two films over the weekend.

Sony's Spider-Man: No Way Home is coming off of a three-day weekend gross of $20.09 million, which was down a solid 38 percent from the previous weekend (and represented the seventh largest unadjusted fifth weekend gross of all-time). The four-day holiday haul for the superhero event film was $24.65 million. With continued strong word of mouth, the film holding onto a high percentage of its locations and showtimes from last weekend and not having to deal with a new release the size of Scream this weekend, Spider-Man: No Way Home is likely to hold up even better this weekend than it did over last weekend's three-day frame. BoxOfficeReport is predicting that Spider-Man: No Way Home will decline a very solid 33 percent from last weekend to take first place with $13.4 million.

Paramount's Scream is coming off of a nice start, in which the film generated respective three-day and four-day openings of $30.02 million and $33.86 million. Thus far, Scream has been displaying early front-loading, which isn't surprising for a high-profile horror sequel. Word of mouth for the film looks to be good, as Scream (2022) received a B+ rating on CinemaScore, which is very solid for a horror film. Way back in 2000, Scream 3 declined 53 percent in its second weekend to gross $16.32 million, while 2011's Scream 4 decreased a sharp 62 percent in its second weekend to take in just $7.03 million. Scream (2022) could very well experience a second weekend percentage decline in between those of Scream 3 and Scream 4. Look for Scream to decrease 57 percent this weekend to land in a close second with $12.8 million.

Universal's Sing 2 will look to remain in third place this weekend after placing in third last weekend with respective three-day and four-day grosses of $7.98 million and $10.31 million. Sing 2 was down 31 percent over last weekend's three-day frame and like Spider-Man: No Way Home, could hold up a bit better this weekend than it did last weekend. A decline of just 27 percent would transfer into $5.8 million for Sing 2 this weekend.

Universal will also look to claim fourth place this weekend with the release of Redeeming Love. The western romance was directed by D.J. Caruso and stars Abigail Cowen and Tom Lewis. While pre-release buzz has been limited for the film, Redeeming Love should have at least a bit of a built-in audience this weekend, due to the film being adapted from the 1991 novel of the same name, written by Francine Rivers. Redeeming Love is also being aimed at faith-based audiences. The film is playing exclusively in theatres this weekend in 1,903 locations and will also have Thursday preview shows beginning at 7PM. Redeeming Love should play better in more rural areas, but will also see its overall potential limited somewhat by its location and showtimes counts this weekend. BoxOfficeReport is predicting that Redeeming Love will debut with $3.0 million this weekend (for a per-location average of $1,576).

As for some of this weekend's other holdovers, look for Disney and 20th Century's The King's Man to decline a slim 21 percent to take fifth with $1.75 million, for Universal's The 355 to decrease a so-so 41 percent to follow in sixth with $1.35 million and for Lionsgate's American Underdog to decline just 27 percent to land in seventh with $1.15 million.

Also opening in wide release this weekend is Gravitas Ventures' The King's Daughter. The Sean McNamara directed fantasy adventure film stars Pierce Brosnan, Kaya Scodelario and Benjamin Walker. The film was originally produced way back in 2014 (then titled as The Moon and the Sun), before being shelved by Paramount in 2015. The King's Daughter will finally be released theatrically this weekend, as the film will be playing in 2,170 locations and will also have Thursday preview shows beginning at 4PM. BoxOfficeReport isn't making an official prediction for The King's Daughter this weekend, but the film is likely to open under the $1 million mark.
