| After leading the domestic box office last weekend with Come Play, Focus will look to lead the box office again this weekend with its release of Let Him Go. The Thomas Bezucha directed thriller
stars Diane Lane and Kevin Costner. Let Him Go will be released in 2,436 locations this weekend and will also have Thursday night previews beginning at 7PM. Let Him Go should receive a boost this weekend from its
critical reviews, which have been good overall. While Let Him Go is set to take first place this weekend, the film's potential will also be limited a bit from it looking like Let Him Go won't be getting quite as many
showtimes per location that recent films such as The War with Grandpa, Honest Thief and Come Play have received during their respective opening weekends. Let Him Go could debut with $3.2 million this weekend
(which would give the film a per-location average of roughly $1,315 for the frame) and should have a good chance of holding up well throughout the month of November. |
| Focus will also look to claim second place this weekend, as Come Play enters its second weekend of release. The PG-13 rated horror film took first place last weekend with $3.12 million. While
Come Play received a bit of a boost last weekend from opening over Halloween weekend, the film could hold up better than usual for a horror film the weekend after Halloween, thanks in part to good word of mouth and respectable
critical reviews. Last weekend The Empty Man declined 56 percent in its second weekend, so it also feels very reasonable that Come Play will hold up at least a bit better in its second weekend than The Empty Man did
(even when taking Halloween into account). A 49 percent decline would give Come Play $1.6 million this weekend. |
| In its fifth weekend of release, 101 Studios' The War with Grandpa will look to remain in third place. The War with Grandpa lost a bit of momentum last weekend, but should bounce back this weekend,
due in part to last weekend's performance being deflated somewhat from Halloween falling on Saturday. The War with Grandpa could also be helped out a bit this weekend from early November traditionally being a time of the year
where family films tend to perform very well (over opening weekend in more typical situations). On Wednesday The War with Grandpa was down just 18 percent from last Wednesday and the film could hold up even better this weekend by
declining just 9 percent to take in $1.15 million. |
| Open Road and Briarcliff's Honest Thief should find itself in fourth place this weekend. On Wednesday Honest Thief was down 33 percent from last Wednesday. The Liam Neeson-led action thriller will
also likely get a bit of a boost from the post-Halloween weekend frame, but at the same time will be facing new direct competition from Let Him Go this weekend. A solid 31 percent decrease would transfer into a weekend take of
$0.95 million for Honest Thief. |
| Disney will continue it string of recent re-issues by re-issuing Pixar's 1995 classic Toy Story this weekend. This weekend's re-issue of Toy Story represents the seventh re-issue from Disney over
the past seven weeks. Debuts of Disney's recent animated re-issues have included $1.32 million for The Nightmare Before Christmas, $0.60 million for Coco and $0.49 million for Monsters, Inc. This weekend's
performance of Toy Story is likely to fall within the same range of those recent re-issues. And as mentioned, early November being a time of year that audiences are traditionally in the mood for family fare, could give
Toy Story an added boost. Toy Story will be playing in 2,102 locations this weekend and could see a per-location average of just over $400 to take in $0.85 million for the frame. |
