| With no new major competition entering the marketplace this weekend, Warner's Tenet appears set to top the weekend domestic box office for a fifth straight frame. Last weekend Tenet declined just
26 percent to take in an estimated $3.4 million. The Christopher Nolan directed film should be able to hold up even better this weekend, due in part to the mentioned lack of new competition, more theatres continuing to slowly re-open
(including in parts of California, where the film has been performing relatively stronger) and from not losing as many screenings per location as it did last weekend. A decline of 21 percent would give Tenet a $2.7 million take
this weekend. |
| Disney and 20th Century's The New Mutants and Solstice Studio's Unhinged have both been holding up well over the past few weeks and should continue to do so this weekend. The New Mutants was
down 28 percent from last weekend and (like Tenet) could hold up better this weekend due in part to not losing as many screenings per location as the film did last weekend. A 21 percent decline would give The New Mutants
a $0.93 million second place take for the weekend. Unhinged decreased 24 percent last weekend and a 20 percent decrease this weekend would give the film a third place haul of $0.77 million. This weekend The New Mutants
will be playing in 2,154 locations (down 151 from last weekend) and Unhinged will be playing in 2,029 locations (down 153 from last weekend). |
| Opening in wide release this weekend is Disney's re-issue of Hocus Pocus. While Hocus Pocus didn't light the box office on fire back in 1993, the film has seen its popularity grow over the years as a
Halloween favorite with a cult following. With theatres currently yearning for more films to help fill up screens, Hocus Pocus will be playing in a surprising 2,570 locations this weekend. However, like
Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back last weekend, potential will be limited by Hocus Pocus only receiving a few daily screenings at most theatres. A per-location average slightly under $200 would give Hocus Pocus
$0.50 million this weekend, which might be good enough for fourth place. |
| Trafalgar Releasing's Break the Silence: The Movie, Disney and 20th Century's 40th Anniversary re-issue of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (which will be playing in 1,675 locations, down 422 from last weekend)
and Cloudburst Entertainment's Infidel (which will be playing in 1,792 locations, down 93 from last weekend) could all be in shouting distance of one another (and Hocus Pocus), as places fourth through seventh likely won't
be separated by much this weekend. |
| While there won't be an opening weekend prediction for the film, Bleecker Street's Save Yourselves! will be released in moderate release this weekend (388 locations). NEON and Well Go USA's
Possessor Uncut also looks to be opening in moderate release this weekend, though an official location count wasn't available as of publishing. |
